Qualcomm says every Android phone maker will beat Apple to 5G

While Apple may be waiting until 2020 to introduce a smartphone with support for 5G, the same can’t be said for Android manufacturers. During an interview with CNET, Qualcomm President Cristiano Amon revealed that every Android manufacturer will have a 5G smartphone for sale in time for the 2019 holiday shopping season. And some manufacturers, of course, will introduce devices with support for 5G much sooner than that.

“When we get to exactly this time of year one year from now,” Amon explained, “we will see every [handset maker] on the Android ecosystem, their flagship across all US carriers will be a 5G device.”

Samsung’s Galaxy S10 is the undisputed star of winter when it comes to unreleased mobile devices. With three months to go until its official announcement, we already know plenty of things about the handset from an increasing number of reports. The tech world is always a tad more interesting when companies like Microsoft and Apple are willing to throw a little shade at each other. Take, for example, a new Microsoft ad for the Surface Go, which takes a few nice jabs at the iPad. The commercial begins with a girl looking at Surface Go and imploring her grandmother not to buy an iPad. The reason? It’s not a real computer.

“Grandma don’t go out and buy an iPad,” the girl sings. “It was fine when I was six but now I’m 10. My dreams are big so I need a real computer to do all of the amazing things I know I can.”

FDA research monkeys retired and will live out their lives in Florida

When U.S. citizens retire, they are required by law to consider moving to Florida. Okay, so it’s not an actual requirement, but plenty of retirees decide that they deserve the warm weather and ample sunshine that Florida offers and make the move. Apparently that luxury isn’t reserved for just humans though, as a whole crew of former FDA research monkeys will now also be retiring to the Sunshine State.

As CNN reports, a full 26 squirrel monkeys have been released by the FDA after serving their purpose as test animals for nicotine addiction research. The animals, all of whom are apparently in good health, now get to spend the rest of their days soaking up the rays and doing whatever it is monkeys do when they’re not in cages in a government lab.
