Apple has gotten 2015 off to a resounding start, as the company said on Thursday that it shattered its record for weekly App Store sales in the first week of January 2015. Per Street Insider, Apple recorded nearly $500 million worth of sales for both apps and in-app purchases in just the first week of 2015 alone and Apple says that New Year’s Day this year also broke its record for total app purchases in a single day.

In recent years, there have been a few common threads that ran through the annual Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, Nevada. Large companies unveiled iteration after iteration; bigger, faster, thinner versions of their existing products that we were all supposed to “ooo” and “ahh” at. Then smaller companies threw as much spaghetti as they could muster at the wall, desperately hoping that something would stick. There was no real direction, no inspiration and no meaningful innovation.

At the moment, there aren’t many smartwatches on the market that compete with the Moto 360 when it comes to user interface and design. It’s a well-made product and showpiece for Android Wear, but with the Apple Watch right around the corner, Motorola wants to ensure that the Moto 360 retains its status as the wearable to beat.

It’s no secret anymore that you’ll see plenty of Samsung product placements in the upcoming The Avengers: Age of Ultron movie this summer, as the South Korean company made that abundantly clear not too long ago when it launched an exclusive extended trailer version of the first official trailer for the movie. But, in addition to existing Samsung devices you might see in the movie, the company has come up with other interesting never-before-seen gadgets that will appear in the movie. Unfortunately, as Business Insider reports, these special Samsung toys aren’t real, and you shouldn’t expect to see them in stores too soon.

Apple’s recently released iOS 8 is already installed on almost 70% of existing iOS devices, but the launch was far from smooth, as Apple had to constantly deal with some very serious bugs that were affecting users and issue subsequent fixes for some pressing issues. 9to5Mac has learned from sources that Apple is planning to take additional steps to ensure that future iOS releases go much smoother, at least when it comes to bugs and issues.

Verizon was reportedly warned by both Comcast and AT&T not to push the envelope on net neutrality, but the company decided to sue the FCC over its compromise net neutrality rules anyway. It successfully got those rules tossed out nearly one year ago and many people assumed this meant ISPs would be free to charge companies more money to ensure the speedy delivery of their traffic. However, the huge public outrage at the prospect of letting ISPs create Internet “fast lanes” put renewed pressure on the FCC to take a tougher stance on net neutrality, and now it looks like Verizon is about to suffer a humiliating defeat.

Amazon has been slowly rolling out a redesign for its website, The Verge reports, which is already available to a broader group of users in the U.S. The change, which Amazon has been working on for a few months, is likely meant to convince buyers to spend even more money on the wide variety of products the giant retailer has in stock, and can be seen on a many Internet browsers, regardless of whether the user is signed in or not.
