I’ve always considered myself a utilitarian when it comes to my home entertainment center. Now that the iOS 8.0.1 fiasco has been resolved, Apple is looking to move forward with its latest mobile platform. In order to do so, Apple has stopped signing the iOS 7.1.2 firmware, which means that it is no longer possible to downgrade from iOS 8 once you have installed the update. If you’re still unsure about iOS 8 and have yet to pull the trigger, be aware that there’s now no turning back once you do.

It’s no secret that while Google offers the bare bones of Android free of charge to smartphone and tablet makers, anyone who wants to put core Google apps and services such as Gmail and the Google Play Store on their devices has to pay licensing fees. Along with those fees come certain restrictions on how much the device manufacturers can customize Android — and now a new report from The Information suggests that these OEM agreements might have gotten even tougher for companies looking to deploy Android devices.

User privacy is a product feature Apple has been heavily advertising recently and it’s been making sure customers know their data is safe… but that doesn’t mean advertisers and retailers won’t still be able to track some Apple device users. For example, even if you use an iOS 8 privacy feature called MAC address spoofing that was designed to stop advertisers from tracking you, you still aren’t necessarily safe from marketers’ prying eyes.

It’s hard to argue that the Moto 360 isn’t the best looking smartwatch on the market. Whether or not it’s a case of style over substance, Motorola was one of the first vendors to introduce a wearable device that actually managed to excite the general public. Unlike Google Glass, the Moto 360 could almost be mistaken for a regular timepiece at a glance, but Motorola wants to prove it’s much more than just a watch.

Listen up, people: The videos of bent iPhone 6 Plusses will do very little damage to Apple’s long-term reputation. So long as Apple is correct when it says that your iPhone 6 Plus isn’t likely to bend under normal usage, this issue will go away very quickly, just as “Antennagate” went away quickly when Apple gave out free bumpers and just as “Mapsgate” went away very quickly once Tim Cook apologized for it and recommended that people download different mapping apps. That said, there are some iPhone fans out there who are so irate over the whole issue that they’ve seemingly lost their minds about it.

Comcast knows that its customer service reputation is terrible — the question is whether it actually cares. With its proposed merger with Time Warner Cable up for regulatory review, Comcast certainly wants to at least give off the impression that it’s working night and day to make things better. DSLReports flags a new blog post from Comcast Cable president and CEO Neil Smit, who says that Comcast is finally getting around to focussing on improving its customer service with the hire of a new executive named Charlie Herrin, who “has been named SVP, Customer Experience.” What’s really noteworthy, however, are Smit’s explanations for why Comcast’s customer service has been so infamously bad over the years.

Apple delayed the launch of HealthKit apps when it released iOS 8, even though Health is one of the main features of this year’s iOS update. The company then released iOS 8.0.1, which should have fixed HealthKit problems and allowed app developers to update their apps with HealthKit integration, but the update was quickly pulled as it was found to cause serious problems for iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus users.

The HTC One (M8) is one of the best smartphones we’ve reviewed this year but there was one thing about it we found particularly disappointing — namely, the quality of its camera, which can’t hold a candle to the cameras on rival flagship devices such as the iPhone 6 and the Galaxy S5. However, a new report from Android Police claims that HTC is about to fix that with a new smartphone set to be unveiled next month that will feature a 13-megapixel Duo Camera.
