Apple’s industry-leading iPhones are known for several things. Stunning designs and simple but powerful software are both somewhere near the top of the list, but the iPhone line also just so happens to represent some of the most widely used cameras on the planet. While other smartphone makers have long since passed Apple’s iPhones when it comes to megapixel counts, the new iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus still arguably represent the most impressive smartphone cameras in the world.

But are the cameras in the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus really that much better than the one in Apple’s previous-generation iPhone 5s?

After a report last week revealed the President of Microsoft Indonesia confirmed that the Windows 8 to Windows 9 upgrade will be available free download, Myce has discovered that not all current Windows 8 users may be entitled to a free Windows 9 update. Well-known Russian leaker WZOR, the source of various Windows 9 leaks in the past, says that just those customers who have purchased a Windows 8 (or Windows 8.1) copy will qualify for free upgrades. Users who have purchased a computer with Windows 8 preinstalled (OEM version of the software) will have to pay a fee.

Yin and Yang are in full force at Apple right now, where its most massively successful product launch ever has been counterbalanced by an onslaught of scandals and bad news. First, there was iPhone 6 Plus “Bendgate.” Then, Apple bricked about 40,000 new iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus handsets with a buggy iOS 8.0.1 update. Earlier this week, a few big security flaws were found in iOS 8.0.2, and now Apple is in hot water over what the European Commission (EC) claims amounts to about $8 billion in unpaid taxes.

Now, Apple has responded publicly for the first time to the EC’s allegations.

Apple on Tuesday confirmed what various reports suggested in preceding days, launching its biggest iPhones yet in the biggest smartphone market in the world. The iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus will start selling in China on October 17, both in local Apple retail stores and from the country’s main mobile operators. Just like in other markets, buyers will be able to preorder their chosen iPhone 6 model a week in advanced (on October 10), and reserve the device for in-store pick-up beginning with October 14.

One reason that Android has spread so quickly is that Google allows anyone to use the bare bones of the platform for free. This has allowed venders in emerging markets such as Xiaomi and Micromax to crank out dirt-cheap Android handsets that have killer specs and that generate razor-thin margins for manufacturers. Of course, many of these cheapie handsets don’t have access to Android essentials such as the Google Play Store since Google actually does charge a licensing fee for manufacturers that want to use those features, but that doesn’t seem to matter to many buyers who just want an ultra-affordable smartphone.

There weren’t many smartphones that received even a fraction of the buzz that the iPhone 6 did this year, but the OnePlus One somehow managed to find its way on to that list. With an aggressive marketing campaign and an air of mystery surrounding it, the CyanogenMod handset piqued the interest of the Android community right away, but nine months later, the phone still isn’t available to the public. Nevertheless, OnePlus doesn’t plan on slowing down any time soon.
