As Microsoft promised at its recent X018 event, the company’s Xbox One console is finally getting mouse and keyboard support starting today, with games like Fortnite supported right off the bat as part of the Xbox One November update. The update wraps together a number of features and additions that incorporated feedback from fans. The full details are here, and among the highlights: Fortnite and Warframe are some of the titles getting mouse and keyboard support at launch, with additional titles coming this month and shortly after.

Microsoft also says it’s teaming up with Razer to offer what it says is the optimal mouse and keyboard experience via a new “Designed for Xbox” mouse and keyboard setup. It’s meant for gaming on Xbox One or Windows 10 with a dedicated Xbox keyboard and new Xbox Dynamic Lighting capability that enables immersive game-controlled lighting effects, and Microsoft will be sharing more details about the Razer partnership at CES in January.

Two months after its official return as a brand, the French consumer electronics company Withings is continuing what’s turned into something of an extended comeback. Nokia had acquired the company almost two years ago, but the company recently bought itself back and reintroduced itself to the public thanks to a new logo, website and stylish new product in the form of the Steel HR Sport, a hybrid smartwatch and fitness tracker.

And today, the company is announcing its second new device since moving ownership away from Nokia. It’s the Pulse HR, a water-resistant fitness tracker that comes with features like connected GPS tracking, heart rate monitoring, smartphone notifications and 20-day battery life.

NASA has sent a number of high-tech robots to the Red Planet already, but we don’t normally hear about how things like entry and landing went until after the fact. That’s going to change with the entry of the InSight lander, which is scheduled to touch down on Mars on November 26th, because NASA is going to live stream the entire event for the world to watch.

No, the lander won’t actually be sending back live video of itself hurtling towards the Martian surface, but the space agency is going to have live commentary and video feeds from the Jet Propulsion Laboratory’s mission control so we can see the scientists and engineers doing their thing in real time.

Google Maps is in the midst of pulling off a pretty interesting evolution these days, going from being a simple navigational tool that helps you get from Point A to Point B and into the app equivalent of a Swiss Army knife.

It’s now packed with tons of features that include a Yelp-like ability to do some quick research on a restaurant as well as the ability to share your ETA with friends and family. Rabies is no joke, so if you see a wild animal acting weird, it’s always a good idea to both avoid it and alert animal control so they can take a look. When police in Milton, West Virginia, got calls about suspected rabid raccoons acting obnoxious in broad daylight, they discovered that the bandit-faced animals were merely drunk. Yes, drunk.

Officers discovered that the raccoons had been munching on crabapples that had fermented. The tasty treats made the creatures a bit tipsy and caused them to act erratically, much like a bar patron who doesn’t know their limit. So, what do you do with a bunch of drunk raccoons? The same thing you do with a drunk human: stick ’em in a jail cell until they sober up.

It may not be that clear right now, but augmented reality (AR) will be the next big thing in computing soon, including the mobile kind of computing. Some of the pieces of the AR puzzle are already in place, while others aren’t quite there. Specifically, we need more hardware breakthroughs to make AR glasses exciting, as well as more support from app developers. But several companies are already working on such devices, including Apple and Facebook.

The George R.R. Martin multiverse continues to expand, as Variety reports this week that Hulu is developing multiple shows based on Wild Cards: A book series edited by the Game of Thrones creator. According to sources, Hulu plans to open writers room for two shows set in the Wild Cards universe. Andrew Miller (The Secret Circle, Tremors) is set to write and executive produce both shows for Hulu and Universal Cable Productions.

Wild Cards started as long campaign for a superhero-themed tabletop role-playing game called Superworld, but then evolved into series of contemporary novels and short stories written by a variety of science-fiction authors. Martin and Melinda M. Snodgrass edited the books, and Snodgrass will join Miller in executive producing the show.
