You may have never heard of the solid metal cylinder known as Le Grand K, but it’s most definitely impacted your life in countless ways. Le Grand K is kept in Paris, where it’s been for over 120 years, and its purpose is to simply exist.

You see, Le Grand K is the most perfect kilogram on the planet. For weight measurements to mean anything, every scale has to be calibrated on the exact same standard, and that’s where this particular piece of platinum-iridium alloy comes in. Now, after serving in its post for well over a century, Le Grand K is being retired.

The Galaxy S10 is several months away if recent reports are to be believed, but we already have a pretty good idea of what to expect from Samsung next February. The Galaxy S10 will come in three versions, complete with new designs and brand new features, including new tricks that aren’t available on some of the latest flagships.

A source with a great track record has also just posted details about the upcoming Galaxy S flagship, seemingly confirming what we already think we know about the Galaxy S10 models.

‘Toy Story 4’ teaser trailer reaction video brings Key & Peele back together

Yesterday, Disney shared a short, mysterious teaser for Toy Story 4, Pixar’s next animated feature. We got to see all of our favorite toys from the first three movies, and were introduced to a new character named Forky, upon whom the plot will apparently center. What we didn’t get to see were any actual scenes from the movie, as it was a teaser in the truest sense of the word, but Disney had another surprise up its sleeve on Tuesday.

Reaction videos are all the rage on YouTube, and have been for years, and so Disney decided to toy with the premise and introduce two more new characters in a video that features Keegan-Michael Key and Jordan Peele voicing Ducky and Bunny, while paying homage to one of the best recurring Key & Peele sketches.

Survey: Americans now check their smartphones a whopping 52 times a day

%name Survey: Americans now check their smartphones a whopping 52 times a day by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

At this point, smartphone addiction is a pretty well understood phenomenon, even if we sometimes feel powerless to do much about it. Everything seems to be going in one direction — more and more of our lives are caught up in our phones and what we do on them, which means we spend more and more time each day tied to them.

Such that the biggest tech companies are now starting to make noise about various digital wellness initiatives meant to break us of these habits, at least a bit. For now, though, the trend continues uninterrupted. Indeed, Deloitte’s 2018 Global Mobile Consumer Survey found that Americans are spending more time tied to their mobile devices than ever before. In terms of what that looks like in hard numbers: Americans are now checking their smartphones, collectively, about 14 billion times a day. Which works out to an average of 52 looks per user, according to the survey.

Here’s how NASA is helping deal with the California wildfires

NASA spends plenty of time peering into space, but the agency’s high-powered tools can also provide some serious help to us here on Earth. With deadly wildfires raging out of control in California, NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory is using satellites to map the progress of the various blazes, giving disaster management officials vital info in the process.

In a new post on its website, JPL shows how it processes satellite images to easily spot where fires have changed the landscape. This gives responders a good idea of where a fire is moving and how well it’s been contained.

Why doesn’t this $6 accessory come with every Roku Stick and Fire TV?

%name Why doesn’t this $6 accessory come with every Roku Stick and Fire TV? by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

You know what? If streaming media dongles like the Roku Streaming Stick, Fire TV, and Fire TV Stick came with a compact little USB charging cable like the StarTech 1 ft Micro USB Cable instead of regular power cables with wall adapters, the companies that make them would probably save a ton of money. On top of that, they’re better for consumers because they let you connect your device to the USB port on the back of your TV for power, meaning there will be no cables at all running from the back of your TV. Until someone invents a powered HDMI port, this is the best way to power your media streamer, and it’s discounted right now on Amazon.

StarTech.com 1 ft Micro USB Cable – A to Left Angle Micro B: $5.64

Here are some highlights from the product page:

  • The left angle Micro USB connector allows the computer and a connected USB peripheral to be positioned nearly flush against a wall or other surface, saving space while reducing wear and tear on the cable
  • Left angle Micro USB connector
  • Durable construction
  • Supports high-speed data transfer rates of up to 480 Mbps

Jimmy Kimmel mocks Trumpy Bear in hilarious spoof video

%name Jimmy Kimmel mocks Trumpy Bear in hilarious spoof video by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

Over the weekend, an utterly bizarre and downright comical TV commercial for a Donald Trump styled teddy bear hit the airwaves. The product in question? Trumpy Bear. What is it? Well, if you must know, it’s a bear with Donald Trump-esque blonde hair and a secret zipper on the back which hides — naturally — an American flag blanket. The commercial itself is so ludicrious that you’d be forgiven for thinking it was an Onion-style parody. But as it turns out, the commercial and the product itself are both very real.

Priced at around $40, one would be hard-pressed to call Trumpy Bear a bargain, though it might make for a fun gag gift I suppose. The video itself features a number of folks talking about how Trumpy Bear enriches their day-to-day lives. Of course, once the Trumpy Bear commercial started going viral, it didn’t take long for comics to poke fun at the peculiar, and yet entertaining commercial. To this point, Jimmy Kimmel just last night lampooned Trumpy Bear during a hilarious segment on Jimmy Kimmel Live!
