Once Tesla introduced its Autopilot software in late 2015, it instantly became clear that the reality of autonomous driving was going to come a lot sooner than perhaps most people expected. Naturally, the rollout of Autopilot also resulted in a number of thrill-seeking drivers pushing the software to dangerous extremes. For instance, you might remember one guy who put his Model S into Autopilot mode and then decided to just chill in the backseat.

But don’t let such ridiculous use-cases fool you; Tesla’s suite of Autopilot features is extremely advanced, powerful, convenient, and more than anything, can prevent accidents in everyday driving situations. In short, it provides us with a glimpse into what the future of driving will likely be like.

If you thought the Google-owned Boston Dynamics made the world’s most frightening robots, think again. Via Gizmodo, a new collaboration between the Norwegian University of Science and Technology, Kongsberg Maritime, and Norwegian oil and gas company Statoil has produced a robotic aquatic snake that really does look like something out of The Matrix. Called the Eelume, the robot was designed to examine and repair underwater structures such as oil wells. This will save money since right now even small underwater repairs are handled by large and expensive vessels that should really only be used to make major repairs.

When there’s smoke, there’s usually fire. And when it comes to Apple’s long-rumored car project, there’s a whole a lot of smoke. Just yesterday, word broke that Apple has a top-secret design lab in Berlin, Germany where a team of 15-20 engineers with deep experience in the auto industry are busy working on projects relating to Apple’s electric car initiative. And earlier today, a new report from Electrek relays that Apple just poached an extremely senior Tesla engineer named Chris Porritt.

First-of-its-kind device acts as a portable generator for a fraction of the price

%name Articles of Interest by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

Generators costs hundreds of dollars or even thousands if you want a high-end model with a big tank. Sometimes you can’t get around the need for a generator — for example, if you live in an area with lots of storms that knock out your power all the time. But for most people, a generator isn’t really necessary.

If you want something to serve as a backup power source every now and then when the power goes out, or to charge your gear when you go camping, there’s a new option out there that costs a fraction of what you’ll pay for a generator. It’s also portable, so it’s a better option than a traditional UPS backup battery.

Meet the Anker PowerHouse Compact 434Wh Portable Power Station, the most compact portable power supply you’ll ever come across. It’s huge 434 watt-hour battery will fully charge a laptop from empty 15 times, and yet it’s compact enough to carry anywhere.

New report outlines one way the iPhone 7 might not match the Galaxy S7

%name Articles of Interest by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

One key component of the Galaxy S7 is Samsung’s ultra-fast universal flash storage (UFS) that’s able to offer better speeds than typical memory solutions used in smartphones and other computers. Based on Samsung’s advanced V-NAND flash memory chips, the UFS storage would significantly improve the iPhone’s performance. A new report says that although Samsung and Apple have inked a storage deal for the first time since the iPhone 5, Samsung’s UFS might not make it into the iPhone until next year.

Google employees hate Nest so much they’re making memes about it

%name Articles of Interest by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

As has been observed many times over the past couple of weeks, Google’s acquisition of Nest has basically turned into a giant dumpster fire. In short, Nest’s product portfolio has grown very slowly since its acquisition by Google and its revenues are way below expectations. Additionally, Nest CEO Tony Fadell sounds like a complete nightmare to work for and he’s shown that he’s not afraid to disparage a large number of former employees after they leave the company.

In fact, things have apparently gotten so bad at Nest that Google employees routinely generate memes that mock the company and send them around the office, as a new report from Re/code shows.

Watch what happens when you put an iPhone in a bowl of expanding foam

%name Articles of Interest by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

One of the most annoying things about new iPhone releases are the deluge of videos that seek to come up with new ways to destroy said iPhone. Now I’m not against putting an iPhone in a blender or dropping it from 20 feet up in the air, but the creativity level in the iPhone-destruction world sadly leveled off years ago.

Watch the new iPhone 7 get destroyed by a hammer!

Watch Apple’s latest iPhone get run over by a car!

Yeah, we get it. The iPhone isn’t indestructible. And the novelty of watching drop tests, blend tests and impact tests wore off long ago.

But not all hope is lost.
