This $999 Android flagship has a hidden screen and doubles as an ‘ultra-secure’ blockchain phone

%name Articles of Interest by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

Given the huge popularity of Bitcoin and blockchain technology, it was only a matter of time until smartphone makers created blockchain phones. We’ve already talked about a couple of devices that are dueling for “world’s first” titles, including the HTC Exodus 1 and the Sirin Labs Finney phone. HTC gave us a few more details about the Exodus 1 a few weeks ago and the phone is actually already available for preorder. Then Sirin Labs on Thursday announced the commercial launch of its own creation, further detailing this strange Android contraption that’s supposed to deliver secure, on-the-go crypto action.

Leak reveals how insanely thin the bezels are on Samsung’s all-screen Galaxy S10

%name Articles of Interest by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

The flagship Galaxy S9+ smartphone pictured above has what is easily one of the most gorgeous designs we’ve ever seen. The all-glass and metal construction is sturdy and sleek, while the curved glass edges on the front and back of the handset fit perfectly in the curves of your hand. It’s stunning indeed, but there’s one design element there that is painfully outdated. Yes, we are of course talking about the large bezels above and below the display.

In 2018, it’s the first thing your eye is drawn to. Samsung chose to reuse its 2017 Galaxy S design again in 2018, and the result is a screen that is decidedly dated. For other manufacturers, 2018 has been all about minimizing bezels and inching ever closer to the “all-screen” smartphone design of our dreams. For Samsung, 2018 has been all about recycling old designs and flagship smartphone sales have suffered dearly as a result. Beginning in early 2019, however, all that changes with the launch of the new Galaxy S10 line of flagship devices. And now, a new leak finally reveals just how impressive the all-screen design is going to be on Samsung’s next-generation Galaxy S flagship.

Leak shows a Lenovo phone with a display as exciting as the Galaxy S10’s

%name Articles of Interest by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

The Galaxy S10 will have an exciting all-screen design when it launches next year, if recent leaks are to be believed. Samsung announced the all-screen Infinity-O screen a few weeks ago, after teasing that the Galaxy A8s will have an all-screen design with a tiny notch at the top, where the selfie camera would be.

The company never confirmed that the display tech will be on the flagship Galaxy S10 next year, but multiple reports from different sources seem to support the idea. Not to mention that Samsung’s new policy is to launch new smartphone features with on mid-range phones instead of flagships. But Samsung’s phones won’t be the only ones to rock Infinity-O screens in the coming months. We saw earlier this week images of the purported Huawei Nova 4 featuring an Infinity-O screen, and now we have a video that supposedly shows a Lenovo device sporting the same design.

Corporate espionage leads to leak of Samsung’s flexible display tech secrets to China

%name Articles of Interest by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

The race to bring viable foldable display technology to market has apparently become so intense that some of the players are resorting to corporate espionage.

Prosecutors in South Korea have indicted nine people suspected of leaking details related to Samsung’s flexible display technology. According to Reuters, the leaks included a sale of documents to China with the relevant information for the equivalent of $13.85 million. China, of course, being the home country of Huawei, which like South Korea-based Samsung is racing to bring a device with a foldable display to market soon.

This incredible Hubble snapshot of a galaxy cluster took an incredible amount of work to pull off

%name Articles of Interest by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

Hubble might be nearing the eventual end of its lifespan, but it’s still capable of some truly incredible feats. A new image stitched together from several Hubble snapshots has given astronomers a breathtaking glimpse at a distant collection of galaxies called the Coma cluster, and boy is there a lot going on here.

The cluster, NASA says, is made up of over 1,000 galaxies. That’s not the number of stars or planets, but 1,000 galaxies. Yeah, it’s huge, and even though it’s around 300 million light years away from Earth, Hubble’s observations have revealed tens of thousands of ancient star clusters filling in the space between neighboring galaxies.

Scientists are scrambling to repudiate researcher’s claims of editing the genes of human embryos

%name Articles of Interest by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

The Second International Summit on Human Genome Editing, taking place this week in Hong Kong, was supposed to be a gathering of researchers and medical professionals for the purpose of furthering the scientific and ethical standards of genetic modification. Instead, it’s been thrown into chaos after a Chinese scientist claimed to have gone forward with his own quest to genetically modify human embryos, some of which have already been carried to term, resulting in the first genetically modified humans.

The man at the center of the controversy, He Jiankui, presented unverified research in which he claims to have tweaked the genes of human embryos in order to make them resistant to HIV. Two babies, a pair of twin girls, have already been born and more are allegedly on the way.

As you might imagine, this isn’t what the organizers of the summit had in mind.

Lawmakers are finally preparing to take action to stop all those annoying robocalls

%name Articles of Interest by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

It’s not exactly asecret that robocalls have gotten out of control. According to data published last month by Consumer Reports, about one-third of all calls of any kind — including both landline and mobile calls — fall under the category of either robocalls and annoying marketing queries, or they’re just outright scams.

Consumer Reports cites a report published by Transaction Network Services (a company that manages data networks for telecom providers like Verizon and Sprint) which claimed that in the first six months of this year, robocall activity was up 15 percent of the same period in 2017. TNS vice president Paul Florack even went so far as to lament that it’s as if “we’re being trained not to answer our phones.”
