NASA delays SpaceX’s ISS resupply mission over space station glitch

It’s only been a little over a week since a static test fire of SpaceX’s Crew Dragon resulted in what appeared to be the complete destruction of the vehicle. SpaceX and NASA both cited the issue as an “anomaly” and have yet to comment further, but that doesn’t mean SpaceX doesn’t have other work to do.

Unfortunately, another one of SpaceX’s many projects has hit its own snag, but this one definitely wasn’t the company’s fault. In a new update by NASA, the space agency says that SpaceX’s Dragon cargo resupply mission that was supposed to be headed to the International Space Station on May 1st has been pushed back to Friday, May 3rd, at the very earliest due to a power glitch.

Devastating spine injury will sideline NFL’s Ryan Shazier for another season

%name Devastating spine injury will sideline NFL’s Ryan Shazier for another season by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

It’s been nearly a year and a half since Steelers linebacker Ryan Shazier experienced one of the most frightening sports injuries in recent memory. A seemingly routine tackle left Shazier’s lower body entirely limp, with doctors later saying that he had suffered a spinal contusion. Surgery followed, but his 2017 season was gone and it soon became clear he wouldn’t be ready to play in 2018 either.

Now, with NFL teams preparing their rosters for their 2019 campaigns, the Steelers have been forced to place Shazier on the team’s reserve list. The designation of ‘Physically Unable to Perform’ means that Shazier will sit out the 2019 season entirely, though the Steelers will still pay him nearly $500,000.

Instagram may be about to make the biggest change ever to your experience with the app soon, in the hope that you’ll stop obsessing so much over how many likes your Coachella posts and #foodpix get.

During Facebook’s annual F8 software developer conference in San Jose, California, today, Instagram’s top executive Adam Mosseri explained that the photo-sharing service is going to start a test later this week that hides the number of likes on each post from other users. The goal, he explained, is to make Instagram feel less “like a competition.”

This is a fully electric Ford Bronco, and you can own one

%name This is a fully electric Ford Bronco, and you can own one by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

Electric vehicles might very well be the future, with nearly ever major automaker at least dabbling in fully electric cars and some of them betting big on the end of gas-guzzling cars entirely, but we’re not there yet. An automotive revolution takes time, and people tend to look back on classic cars and trucks with near fanatical fondness.

A company called Zero Labs Automotive has been doing its best to combine the two, marrying classic designs with all-electric technology. Its first big project is the production of a “new” electric Ford Bronco, complete with the body of the now-retro truck sitting atop all new guts, and boy does it look awesome.

Galaxy S10 5G bursts into flames, but Samsung refuses to take responsibility

%name Galaxy S10 5G bursts into flames, but Samsung refuses to take responsibility by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

One month after launching the Galaxy Note 7 in August 2016, Samsung was forced to suspend sales of the flagship phone when a manufacturing defect was discovered in its batteries that caused them to generate excessive heat and occasionally light on fire. After more problems were reported with the first batch of replacements, Samsung issued a second recall, and ceased production of the Galaxy Note 7 altogether, once and for all.

The catastrophic episode resulted in the company implementing a new eight-step testing and inspection process for its batteries in all future devices, and in the years since, there haven’t been any widespread issues of note. But even isolated incidents are enough to set off alarm bells following the Note 7 debacle.

Measles cases in the U.S. just hit a 25-year high thanks to anti-vaxxers

%name Measles cases in the U.S. just hit a 25 year high thanks to anti vaxxers by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

The United States just hit a major milestone, but not the kind that anyone should be proud of. With over 700 confirmed cases of the measles so far in 2019 the country just passed a 25-year high, and there’s little sign that the outbreak is slowing.

The spread of the disease — which thus far has hit unvaccinated children under five years of age the hardest — would have been absolutely unimaginable just a couple of decades ago. As recently as the year 2000, the United States had effectively eliminated the disease nationwide thanks high percentages of vaccinations, but decades of intense work by health officials to rid us of the disease has been completely undone in seemingly no time at all.

Apple posts Q2 earnings: Revenue hits $58 billion

%name Apple posts Q2 earnings: Revenue hits $58 billion by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

Apple a few moments ago issued its earnings report for the March quarter and posted revenue of $58 billion, a quarterly profit of nearly $11.6 billion, and EPS of $2.46. Leading up to today’s earnings report, analysts on Wall Street were anticipating revenue to fall somewhere in the $57 billion range and EPS to fall around $2.36.

As a point of contrast, Apple during the same quarter last year posted revenue of $61.1 billion and EPS of $2.73. So while revenue did drop year-over-year, that isn’t entirely unexpected given Apple’s cautionary note to investors earlier this year regarding slower demand for new iPhone models than initially expected.

Facebook to launch Messenger apps for Mac and Windows PC

%name Facebook to launch Messenger apps for Mac and Windows PC by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

Facebook made several huge announcements during its F8 2019 keynote, including some of them leaked a few hours earlier than expected. Among other things, Facebook will release a dedicated Messenger app for macOS and Windows 10 this year, which is an exciting development for the popular chat service.

Earlier this year, Facebook made a rather controversial announcement about its instant messaging platforms, revealing that it wants to merge chat apps like Messenger, Instagram, and WhatsApp. At the time, Facebook said that its unified chat service is going to be a few years away, but it’ll be end-to-end encrypted, just like WhatsApp.
