When Google launched the first Android P Developer Preview last March, I explained why I thought at the time that the Pixel 3 would have a notch just like the iPhone X. That turned out to be true: Google copied the iPhone X’s design, adapting other iPhone X features to work on Android in the process. Almost one year later, it looks like the next version of Android could bring built-in support for one of the iPhone X, XS, and XR’s signature features. Yes, Android Q is supposedly going to support 3D face authentication, just like the iPhone X and its successors.

Top Apple insider claims iPhone demand isn’t as low as everyone says

%name Top Apple insider claims iPhone demand isn’t as low as everyone says by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

Apple’s 2019 didn’t get off to a promising start. On January 2, Tim Cook penned a letter to investors and confirmed that iPhone sales during the holiday quarter were much lower than Apple initially anticipated. Consequently, Apple lowered its revenue guidance for the quarter by a few billion and, as you might expect, shares of Apple quickly plummeted in the aftermath.

Though Cook said that 100% of Apple’s revenue shortfall could be attributed to poor sales in China, that didn’t stop some pundits from bringing out the old and somewhat tired claim that we’ve finally reached peak iPhone and that Apple has nowhere to go but down at this point.

Starting today, Roku is rolling out the premium subscriptions to channels like Showtime and Starz that the company promised earlier this month would be coming soon.

The subscriptions will be available through the Roku Channel, which already offers movies, TV shows and live news, and users will pay for everything via one bill. Roku is pushing out an update that makes this possible to all Roku-supported devices in the coming weeks, and it’s also not leaving out users who don’t own one of the company’s devices. If you have the Roku mobile app for iOS, for example, viewing of The Roku Channel from within the app is available starting today, while an update for Android devices is expected to start rolling out in mid-February.

%name New Galaxy S10 leaks tell us it’s time to get excited about battery tech by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

Battery life remains one of the most important features of any new phone. No matter how energy-efficient smartphone components get, we still care about good battery life, which can get us through the day with ease. The Galaxy S10 is the best example in that regard. The phone will have 7nm/8nm chips that will be more efficient than last year’s processors, but recent reports made some people question whether the phones’ batteries are big enough, or whether they charge fast enough. However, a new series of leaks gives us plenty of reasons to get excited about Galaxy S10 battery life.

Facebook’s unified messaging plan might finally convince you to leave Facebook

%name Facebook’s unified messaging plan might finally convince you to leave Facebook by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

A bombshell report late last week revealed that Mark Zuckerberg and Co. are considering a massive overhaul of Facebook’s instant messaging apps which include two top-rated chat apps (Messenger and WhatsApp) and the chat version of Instagram. The plan, according to the report, consists of ensuring that a user belonging of any of the three apps above would be able to get in touch with any other user, without having to register an account on a different social network to do so. The plan might seem brilliant if you forget that Facebook is behind it, and Facebook’s doesn’t act unless it can monetize everything down the road. But there may be an unexpected silver lining in all of this: Facebook’s sort-of unified messaging system might convince you to finally drop Facebook for good.
