%name Potential Galaxy S10 designs imagined in new renders by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

Samsung will launch at least four Galaxy S10 versions next year, according to recent reports, including a premium 5G phone as well as a more affordable handset. The number of cameras on each of these devices will vary for both the front and back of the handset. The cheapest model is said to have a single selfie cam and a dual rear camera. The more expensive models are tipped to have one or two selfie cams, and anywhere from two to four rear cameras. All these devices should deliver a similar Infinity-O screens, which are displays that cover almost the entire surface of the phone’s front side, except for tiny bezels at the top and bottom and a hole at the top for the selfie cameras. Today, we’re treated to new renders that imagine what the dual selfie camera holes might look like on the phones, including the upcoming premium Galaxy S10 handsets.

iOS 12 continues to make Android Pie look shameful

%name iOS 12 continues to make Android Pie look shameful by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

Remember Project Treble? Remember how it was going to be a brilliant solution that finally addressed Android’s terrible fragmentation problem? Well, we have an update on the status of Android’s fragmentation fix: it still isn’t doing anything at all. Android Pie was first released to the public nearly four months ago and according to Google’s official Android version distribution data, it’s currently in use on 0% of active Android devices. That’s not a typo. Meanwhile, according to fresh estimates from analytics firm Mixpanel, iOS 12 adoption topped a whopping 75% this week after just three months of availability.

So, to recap, it has taken iOS 12 about three months for adoption to top 75% and it has taken Android Pie about four months for adoption to reach… 0%.

The first ‘Avengers 4’ trailer is still missing, and so is its title

%name The first ‘Avengers 4’ trailer is still missing, and so is its title by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

Admit it, you too had high hopes that the Russo brothers would reveal the title of Avengers 4 late on Wednesday, right before showing the first trailer of the upcoming movie to an audience of lucky Marvel fans that got to watch Infinity War with the directors. Sadly, that didn’t happen, and we’re back to waiting. And while the Russos did take questions from the audience during the event, they trolled everyone pretty hard when it comes to questions about Avengers 4

The FTC may be coming after video game loot boxes

During a U.S. Senate subcommittee hearing this week, New Hampshire Sen. Maggie Hassan grilled commissioners from the Federal Trade Commission about video game loot boxes — about how prevalent they are as well as the fact that stricter oversight of them might be needed. “Loot boxes are now endemic in the video game industry and are present in everything from casual smartphone games to the newest, high-budget video game releases,” she said during the Senate’s Commerce, Science, and Transportation subcommittee hearing on Tuesday. “Loot boxes will represent a $50 billion industry by the year 2022, according to the latest research estimates.” She then asked commissioners if they would be willing to look more closely at their usage in video games, and the commissioners said they would.

%name Cleveland cops use NASA’s Mars landing to make a point about winter drivers by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

As someone who lives in a state known for bad winters I can totally sympathize with Cleveland residents that have to deal with nasty winter weather. The Cleveland police, on the other hand, are clearly happy to poke some fun at their city’s commuters and used NASA’s recent Mars InSight landing as an opportunity to have a little fun at the expense of anyone on the city’s snow-covered roadways.

A tweet from the official Cleveland Police account on Twitter, in which the cops roast winter drivers by noting that NASA sent a spacecraft hundreds of millions of miles with utter precision, is cop humor at its finest.

Nintendo Switch dominated Black Friday with record-breaking sales

%name Nintendo Switch dominated Black Friday with record breaking sales by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

When the Nintendo Switch launched in 2017, it looked like it would be a runaway success. Flanked by new entries in the Mario, Zelda, and Splatoon franchises, the Switch was already an improvement over the Wii U by the end of the year. All Nintendo had to do was continue to court third-party developers while maintaining a steady stream of first-party content in the years to come. Unfortunately, game releases slowed to a crawl in 2018.

You might think that would affect Switch sales this holiday season. Sure, Nintendo fans are looking forward to Super Smash Bros. Ultimate in December, but would the Switch, still priced at $300, really be able to compete with $200 PS4 and Xbox One bundles? Well, according to the latest data, the answer is a resounding yes.

Well, here’s some electrifying news. At a forum for cyber researchers in Washington DC today, representatives of threat intelligence firm FireEye made clear that the US power grid, while strong and well-defended, is nevertheless the subject of continued, ongoing probes from Russian hackers. FireEye analyst Alex Orleans put it this way, in comments reported by Wired: “There’s still a concentrated Russian cyber espionage campaign targeting the bulk of the US electrical grid. The grid is still getting hit.”
