Apple issued a rare revision to its earnings guidance earlier this week, cautioning investors that the company is anticipating to generate a few billion dollars less in revenue than initially expected. Predictably, shares of Apple absolutely tanked as a result and are now trading at a level we haven’t seen since mid-2017.

In a letter to investors on the topic, Apple CEO Tim Cook squarely laid all the blame on a lower number of iPhone sales for the quarter. Specifically, Cook said that poor iPhone sales in China was the main reason behind Apple’s revised guidance.

HTC’s phone sales are so abysmal that 2018 was its worst year since going public

Another round of earnings data is out from Taiwan-based smartphone maker HTC, and the storyline is unfortunately much the same as it’s been for a while now. The company is struggling so much that, in terms of yearly revenue, 2018 was the company’s worst since going public back in 2002.

To get an idea of how bad things have gotten, the company grossed the US equivalent of $770 million last year — the first time that total has fallen below $1 billion for the year during HTC’s stint as a public company.

The government shutdown is now forcing rocket launches to be delayed

%name The government shutdown is now forcing rocket launches to be delayed by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

The U.S. government has now been in a partial shutdown for nearly two weeks, forcing many federal employees to take unplanned time off, or, in some cases, to work without the promise of a regular paycheck.

Now, with the world having shaken its holiday hangover, the government’s woes are putting kinks in the plans of various companies, including those that want to launch rockets. As Space News reports, Exos Aerospace has been forced to delay the planned January 5th launch of its SARGE suborbital rocket due to the fact the FAA’s Office of Commercial Space Transportation has gone dark.

Netflix shares the first full trailer for its animated ‘Carmen Sandiego’ reboot

%name Netflix shares the first full trailer for its animated ‘Carmen Sandiego’ reboot by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

Netflix’s record with reboots is somewhat spotty. While the returns of Queer Eye and Wet Hot American Summer have been heralded by critics, Fuller House and the new seasons of Arrested Development haven’t received quite as warm a reception. But as long as their is intellectual property to mine, Netflix (and all its rivals) will continue to mine it, which explains why there is a trailer for a Carmen Sandiego animated series in this post.

Yes, the antagonist of a series of educational mystery games from the ’80s, and the namesake for a PBS game show, will star in her own animated series on Netflix later this month. On one hand, it’s really hard for me to believe this was the next best property to revive, but on the other… I did love those games as a kid.

Security researcher cancels talk on Face ID hack under mysterious circumstances

%name Security researcher cancels talk on Face ID hack under mysterious circumstances by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

A security researcher who was supposed to deliver a talk about how to hack the iPhone X’s Face ID feature cancelled his presentation for a rather bizarre reason. According to a report from Reuters, security researcher Wish Wu was originally scheduled to speak at the forthcoming Black Hat Asia hacking conference which is slated to kick off in late March. We’ve since learned that Wu opted to step away from the conference at the behest of his employer, Ant Financial.

Now you might be wondering: why would a company prevent an employee from speaking at a reputable hacking conference? Well, it could have something to do with the fact that Ant Financial has payment software that relies upon the stringent security measures provided by Face ID. What’s more, it’s worth noting that Wu’s presentation wasn’t so much a technical exposé on how to skirt around iOS’ built-in security mechanisms as it was a demonstration that Face ID can sometimes be defeated with a photo. Suffice it to say, we’re not talking about a high-level hack here.

How to turn off the ‘Show Me That Scene Again’ feature on Netflix that everyone hates

%name How to turn off the ‘Show Me That Scene Again’ feature on Netflix that everyone hates by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

I often find myself rewinding movies and TV shows on Netflix, but I only do so whenever I missed something because I was checking my phone. Of course, the smaller screen captures my attention, and I forget about what I was watching on Netflix. But I never feel the urge to rewatch a scene of a film just because it’s that good. And I wouldn’t appreciate a “Show Me That Scene Again” prompt on top of the screen while I’m watching.

However, some users have already discovered the feature is active on their accounts, and we’ve already told you that Netflix is testing it. The good news is that you can turn it off quite easily.

Filming ‘Avengers: Endgame’ ahead of ‘Captain Marvel’ was tricky for Brie Larson

%name Filming ‘Avengers: Endgame’ ahead of ‘Captain Marvel’ was tricky for Brie Larson by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

Stepping into the shoes of a beloved comic book hero is difficult enough, but the stars of Marvel’s blockbuster films are tasked with another, equally important job when they take the role: Keep their lips sealed.

Marvel is notoriously secretive about the plots of its movies, and does everything in its power to ensure the cast and crew understand that virtually nothing can be shared until the movie is out in theaters (and even then they still have to be careful). To that end, USA Today spoke with Brie Larson this week to find out what it was like filming her scenes for Avengers: Endgame ahead of Captain Marvel, and how she kept from spoiling anything along the way.
