Though Apple popularized the ‘i’ prefix as it pertains to product branding, they weren’t the first company to release a product called the iPhone. Indeed, it’s easy to forget that when Steve Jobs first unveiled the company’s iconic smartphone back in 2007, the ‘iPhone’ trademark at the time actually belonged to Cisco.

With this as a backdrop, the Internet History Podcast recently took a look back at the original iPhone, a product which, believe it or not, Infogear launched all the way back in 1998, a good nine years before Jobs shocked the world with Apple’s own take on what a smartphone should be. It can be tough for anxious fans to accept, but now it looks like North Americans looking to get their hands on the latest and greatest from OnePlus are going to have to wait even longer than they initially thought.

The Perseid meteor shower is at peak visibility this week, which means it’s your best time to check it out without the need for a telescope. NASA informs us that the best time to watch the Perseids is at 4 a.m. ET, or 1 a.m. PT, which means you’ll have to either stay up late or wake up early to catch it. But for dedicated stargazers, we’re sure it will be worth the late night/early morning.

Everyone online knows and uses URLs — they’re how you tell a web browser to load an individual page you want to access on your computer on a mobile device. It’s all based on web standards that everyone uses, but you may not know that not all URLs are user-friendly – meaning they can contain plenty of characters that might not make sense to users. But there’s a good reason for that.
