Parting is such sweet sorrow, and I remember how mixed my emotions were when I finally dumped my unlimited data plan on my personal wireless account and switched to one of AT&T’s mobile share plans. I had held onto my old plan for as long as I could in anticipation of the rise of data-hungry mobile services, but the cost benefit of switching and the knowledge that I was just going to be throttled anyway made it silly to hold on any longer.
While Verizon and AT&T built up huge smartphone customer bases in part by luring subscribers in with unlimited data and then practically forcing them onto capped plans, there are still two major U.S. carriers that offer limitless cellular data… for now.

The Oculus Rift virtual reality headset should be released sometime in the first quarter of 2016, and it looks like interested buyers should already start saving money. After a recent report said that Oculus Rift VR requires a powerful computer that could cost more than $1,000 to function, Oculus CEO Brendan Iribe revealed on Wednesday that the full Oculus Rift package will indeed be quite expensive.

As Google Glass has demonstrated, wearable computers give law enforcement officials all sorts of new justifications for handing out tickets to potentially distracted drivers. CTV News reports that Quebec resident Jeffrey Macesin has been slapped with a $120 fine after police noticed him using his Apple Watch while driving. Apparently, Macesin was using his Apple Watch to change the music he was playing in his car when police decided to pull him over.

If federal prosecutors have their way, Ross Ulbricht, the mastermind behind Silk Road, will be sentenced to an extremely long prison term: we’re talking 20 years at the very minimum.
According to the New York Times, the prosecution handling the case has opted not to seek a life sentence for Ulbricht, but will instead try to convince the presiding judge that Ulbricht deserves a sentence that is “substantially above the mandatory minimum of 20 years.” Three months ago, a jury convicted the 30-year old Ulbricht on seven criminal counts, including narcotics trafficking and money laundering.
