There was a lot of speculation leading up to the launch of the iPhone 6 about whether the device would have a sapphire display. That obviously never happened and one reason that’s been cited by some analysts has been that it simply would have been too costly to mass produce large displays made from sapphire. Now it looks like making sapphire displays is even costlier than we thought because Apple sapphire supplier GT Advanced Technologies has just announced that it’s filed for bankruptcy.
