No, perfect stranger sitting next to me on a plane, I don’t want you to talk to me about the reason you’re actually taking this particular flight, your car troubles, or anything else for that matter. I just want to sleep from takeoff to landing. That’s not because I’m anti-social, afraid of flying or anything like that, but because I’m really tired. For me, the most annoying airplane passenger is thus “Chatty Cathy,” which is what Expedia called chatty travelers in a recent airplane etiquette study.
