Just like with previous iOS releases, Apple’s recently rolled out iOS 8 update is causing issues for some device users, including Wi-Fi problems and faster battery drain, as CNET reports. This isn’t the first time a new iOS update has caused such problems, especially on older device that have been updated to the latest software version, and Apple is expected to release fixes for these issues in the near future.

Apple is expected to unveil a new generation of iPad Air models in the coming weeks, with a fresh report from The Commercial Times suggesting that the updated 9.7-inch iPad Air model will be the only new tablet the company launches this year. The Chinese publication also says that a new Retina iPad mini model is expected to arrive only next year, followed by the bigger iOS tablet certain buyers may be waiting for.

iOS 8’s initial adoption numbers may have been a little sluggish, according to reports, but Apple now says on its developer support pages that 46% of active iOS devices have been updated to its latest mobile operating system, “as measured by the App Store on September 21, 2014.”

Apple last week made an important privacy statement and told customers that it values their privacy and it further wants to help them secure personal data including messages, calls and photos by encrypting them. Similarly, Google plans to turn on personal data encryption by default in Android L to further guard user data. On top of these default practices available in iOS 8 and coming to future Android devices, The Associated Press has highlighted other means that can help iOS and Android users (at least on some devices) to protect their photos, at least temporarily.

iPhones may not have as many megapixels as a lot of cameras on high-end Android phones, but repeated photography shootouts have shown that the device’s camera typically punches above its weight and can still deliver fantastic photos despite having lesser top-line specs. Now with the debut of both the iPhone 6 and the iPhone 6 Plus, it looks like Apple has delivered its best smartphone camera yet and fans over at MacRumors this past weekend started posting some stunning photos they’ve taken with their new iPhones.

Sony is about to be very unhappy with the XDA Developers community. It seems that an XDA forum member who goes by the name of XperiaPlaystation has figured out how to port the Sony Xperia Z3’s PlayStation 4 Remote Play feature over to any Android device, despite the fact that Sony has said that it wants the feature to remain an exclusive to its smartphones.

In an interview with Dave Fanning on Irish radio station 2FM, U2’s Bono revealed that the band wants to help Apple get to 1 billion iTunes subscribers, TUAW reports. Apple currently has 885 million users according to the well-informed musician, who has been in the news quite a bit lately because of the free U2 album download “scandal.”

So we already know that Apple sold more than 10 million iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus units over the weekend, which in itself is a hugely impressive achievement. It seems odd since Google and Apple are huge rivals, but Google is indeed one of the best software companies in the world when it comes to iOS apps. Google’s apps — at least, the ones that are updated regularly — always feature beautiful designs and great functionality. In fact, some might argue that Google’s iOS apps are even better than Apple’s own iOS apps. Personally, I can say that Google’s Search app in particular is easily one of the apps I use most often. It brings Google’s incredible Google Now functionality to iOS and it makes searching the web a breeze; I rarely use Safari at all on my iPhone, opting instead to do a quick search with Google’s nifty app to visit a website.
And thanks to a recent update, Google’s iOS Search app is now better than ever.
