Recovered from Apple’s huge iPhone 6 event in September yet? Good, because Re/code’s John Paczkowski is reporting that Apple has another major event set up for October 16th and this time the company will be talking about its iPad line of tablets. It’s widely expected that Apple will use the event to announced its next-generation iPad Air model and Re/code is also reporting that Apple will unveil new iMacs and will also launch OS X Yosemite. While this obviously won’t be as hype-fueled as the iPhone 6 launch, it still promises to be a major event that will see Apple try to reignite demand for its iPads, which have seen their sales decline year-over-year.

Just as it looked like the iPhone 6 Plus was getting past the not-exactly-fatal “Bendgate” controversy, yet another scandal has popped up that could further damage the device’s reputation… but probably won’t. We’re referring, of course, to “Beardgate,” an issue that was flagged by a 9to5Mac community member who claims that the iPhone 6 Plus “keeps yanking out my hair when I’m making call,” which is apparently happening because his facial hair is getting stuck in “the seam between the glass and aluminum.”

After a long beta testing period (which apparently wasn’t long enough) that began at WWDC, Apple finally released iOS 8 to the public earlier this month. Despite having to fight against a new iPhone each year, Samsung was surprised to see Apple’s record iPhone 6 launch in past weeks and had to move up its Galaxy Note 4 launch in South Korea and China as a result. Apple’s iOS 8 has plenty of strengths and weaknesses, but the fact that the platform gives users complete control over which apps and services can access potentially sensitive data is definitely a strength. Apple has shown in recent years that it takes privacy seriously, and this is evident to anyone with an iOS device each and every time a new app; no apps can gain access to things like location data, contacts, photos or even an iOS device’s microphone unless the user grants the app permission in a pop-up.

For some privacy settings, however, iPhone and iPad users need to take a more active approach if privacy is a top priority.

The official NPD numbers for September haven’t been released yet, but it looks like Sony had another whopping victory last month despite some important moves by Microsoft to try to put the Xbox One back on top. According to VGChartz, Sony sold 178,000 PlayStation 4s globally during the week of September 14th while Microsoft only moved 94,000 Xbox One consoles in that time.

The new 2014 models feature better specs, bigger screens and a top to bottom design overhaul, some elements of which have been a bit controversial. Overall, of course, the reception to Apple’s new iPhones has been very positive.
