Now that Samsung, Motorola, LG and Apple have all made their wearable plans clear, only one major mobile vendor remains: HTC. There have been reports floating around since last winter claiming that HTC would be unveiling a smartwatch of its own before the end of the year, but as recently as last month, sources began to come forward saying that the plans had been scrapped.

It has been widely accepted that hands-free voice commands are the safest way to interact with a cell phone while driving, and understandably so, but new research reveals that we might have been a bit too hopeful about our virtual assistants. According to the AAA Foundation for Traffic Safety, hands-free technology is so complex and inaccurate that it can actually be mentally distracting enough to be considered a threat to driver safety.

One feature that many iPhone fans wish they had with the iPhone 6 was the same waterproof casing we see on devices such as the Galaxy S5 and the Xperia Z2. We’ve been buzzing about Motorola’s “Shamu” smartphone, assumed to be the Nexus 6, since the beginning of the year, but neither Motorola nor Google have shared any official details about the device yet. That might be about to change as FCC documentation made available on Tuesday reveals that a 6-inch smartphone supporting AT&T and T-Mobile frequency bands is indeed in the works at Motorola. And since this kind of FCC documentation isn’t normally released until a device is almost ready to launch, we can safely assume that we’ll be getting official word on the Nexus 6 very soon.

Apple released iOS 8.1 beta 2 to developers on Tuesday and the company described the release as simply containing “bug fixes and improvements.” Taking a look through the official change log, however, we can see a couple of interesting specific additions in the new release, including changes to the Address Book people picker UI, workarounds for reported problems third-party keyboard app developers have had testing out their software on some iOS applications, and instructions for enabling Wi-Fi calling on the iPhone 6 over T-Mobile’s network.
