Short patients are more likely to die in intensive care, and researchers don’t know why

If you end up in the intensive care unit of a hospital or clinic there’s a number of things that can affect your eventual outcome. How healthy you are, your age, and the conditions that you’re suffering from are all obvious factors, but a new study suggests that your height might actually play a role in whether you’re able to pull through or not.

New research published in Intensive Care Medicine suggests that taller patients tend to survive at a higher rate than shorter individuals. The study reaches a rather bold conclusion in that short stature may actually be a risk factor if you end up in the ICU.

T-Mobile CEO’s 2019 predictions are mostly a bunch of digs at the competition

%name T Mobile CEO’s 2019 predictions are mostly a bunch of digs at the competition by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

At this point, taking digs at the competition is practically baked into T-Mobile’s identity as a company — even down to the way it refers to itself as the Un-carrier. So it should probably come as no surprise that when the company’s idiosyncratic CEO John Legere unveils his predictions for 2019, as he’s done today, they’re dominated in large measure by the shots they take at rivals like Verizon and AT&T.

Indonesian volcano that produced monster tsunami has been obliterated

%name Indonesian volcano that produced monster tsunami has been obliterated by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

Over the weekend a volcano in Indonesia erupted and spawned a tsunami that slammed into the island nation and claimed hundreds of lives. There was little warning for those in coastal towns and the destruction was widespread. The country is just beginning to dig itself out from the tragic event.

Now, thanks to satellite images taken before and after the eruption, we can see just how hard the disaster was on the volcano, called Anak Krakatau, itself. The before and after shots are stunning, and the volcano has almost completely disappeared following the blast.

The White House is considering an executive order to declare a national emergency that would bar US companies from purchasing telecommunications equipment from China, a new report says, with Huawei and ZTE products being the targets of the order. Three sources familiar with the matter told Reuters the order has been under consideration for more than eight months, but that it could drop as early as January.

Tesla’s Supercharger network will cover all of Europe by the end of 2019

%name Tesla’s Supercharger network will cover all of Europe by the end of 2019 by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

The coverage of Tesla’s Supercharger network has grown by leaps and bounds in recent years, so much so that the notion of ‘range anxiety’ almost seems like ancient history at this point. Still, with Tesla still seeking to boost sales across the globe, not to mention a huge increase in the cumulative number of Tesla vehicles on the road, Tesla still has ambitious plans to expand its Supercharger footprint in a meaningful way over the next year.

Earlier this week, Elon Musk took to Twitter and said that Tesla Supercharger coverage will “extend to 100% of Europe next year.” Driving the point home, Musk said that Supercharger access in Europe will extend from Ireland to Kiev and from Norway to Turkey. And though Musk has been known to make bold proclamations that Tesla can’t quite live up to, Musk’s statements about Supercharger expansion have — for the most part — all gone according to plan.

Disney CEO Bob Iger is on record as saying the company wants to experiment with a new Marvel Cinematic Universe franchise once Avengers winds down, as it’s set to do with the April release of Avengers: Endgame.

And now, in an interview today with Variety’s Playback podcast, a Marvel executive suggested that could very well mean new X-Men, Fantastic Four and Deadpool movies once the Disney merger with Fox closes in early 2019.

Google will reportedly introduce two new Pixel phones in early 2019

%name Google will reportedly introduce two new Pixel phones in early 2019 by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

While we’re likely still a year away from Google’s next flagship smartphone, rumors and reports in recent weeks have led us to believe that we’ll be seeing a more affordable model of the current line in the near future. Adding to the pile this week is Android Police, which, citing a source familiar with Google’s plans, claims that the company will launch two new smartphones on Verizon in early spring 2019: the Pixel 3 Lite and Pixel 3 XL Lite.

As Android Police points out, Google has focused all of its efforts on premium Android devices in recent years, which will make these the first mid-range phones from the company released in the US since the $379 Nexus 5X in 2015. But with the success of the iPhone XR, it only makes sense for Google to follow suit.

The Bose Solo 5 TV Sound System was by far the best-selling sound bar we covered during Black Friday and Cyber Week. It’s true that it was on sale at a small discount during that time frame, but the incredible thing about the Solo 5 is that it doesn’t even have to be on sale to be an incredible value. No other Bose product offers such great sound quality at such a great price compared to the competition, which is pretty crazy considering how expensive most Bose headphones and speakers are. If you’re in need of a sound bar for any TV in your house, look no further — and be sure to grab one while they’re on sale at Bose’s lowest price ever.

The day after Christmas, with a partial government shutdown under way, President Trump made his first visit to troops in a combat zone. These things are often predictable affairs, the stuff of photo-ops, meet-and-greets, rouse the troops with a speech — that kind of thing.

“We’re no longer the suckers, folks,” a bomber jacket-wearing Trump told US troops during his visit to Iraq. And then he went on to apparently out some of them whose identities are supposed to be a closely guarded secret.
