Here’s a great illustration of how much Android phone makers love copying the iPhone

Apple has never really been first to market with a new product, but there’s absolutely no question that the company is a trendsetter. Every single product Apple releases immediately sets the bar in its category, and Apple’s rivals rush to copy the company’s designs. It was true of Apple’s desktop computers and then of its MacBook laptops. It was true of the iPod, the iPad, and the Apple Watch. Look at how long true wireless earbuds had been around before Apple released its AirPods. Once that happened, every electronics company under the sun followed suit.

Of course, there’s one Apple product in particular that Apple’s competitors love to copy more than any other, and it’s always the first thing that comes to mind when people think of companies copying Apple. That’s right, we’re talking about the iPhone, and a nifty new illustration that popped up this week serves as a great reminder of how much Android phone makers love to copy Apple’s iPhone designs.

FCC greenlights Google’s daring plan to control computers with gestures like in ‘Minority Report’

Google has a habit of announcing exciting projects well ahead of being able to deliver them to customers. Examples such as Google Glass and Google Duplex come to mind, but there are plenty of others. One of them is called Project Soli. Announced all the way back at Google I/O 2015, Soli aims to allow users to control smart devices with gestures, just like Tom Cruise’s character does in Minority Report. But there’s no commercial version for Soli at this time, and that’s because Google isn’t done developing it. The FCC, however, just granted Google permission to operate the Soli radar sensors at higher powers than it’s currently allowed.

US military deletes tacky New Year’s Eve tweet about being ‘ready to drop’ a bomb

%name US military deletes tacky New Year’s Eve tweet about being ‘ready to drop’ a bomb by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

It’s so easy to party to excess at the end of the year — to get caught up in the year-end revelry and the excitement of turning a page on the calendar. Some people get so caught up in the fun they go out and get hammered. Others gather in Times Square to watch the ball drop while they try not to freeze to death. Meanwhile, the arm of the US military that oversees the nation’s nuclear weapons arsenal decided to get in on the fun in its own way — by sending out a humorous tweet about how big its bombs are. A tweet that, okay, wasn’t actually funny at all. It has since been deleted and the military has also taken the extra step of apologizing for it.

Welcome to 2019.

NASA gives the thumbs up for production of Dream Chaser space plane

%name NASA gives the thumbs up for production of Dream Chaser space plane by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

Sending supplies and other cargo to the International Space Station is something that has to happen on a regular basis in order for crew to continue living their lives as they carry out missions while orbiting Earth. Exactly how that cargo gets delivered can vary and, as with all things, there’s always someone who thinks maybe they can do it better.

Sierra Nevada Corporation (SNC) has apparently convinced NASA that it can make cargo delivery to the ISS a bit easier with a high-tech space plane called the Dream Chaser. Now, after jumping through whatever hoops NASA requires, the company has been given the go-ahead to begin full production of the spacecraft.
