The virtual reality future is off to a rocky start.

Shortly after the Rift launched late last month, Oculus had to inform many of its customers that their Rift orders would be delayed due to an “unexpected component shortage.” Although the shipping cost for any delayed orders was waived, it appears that this was just the first in a string of issues.

How to save your files from scary new ransomware without paying the ransom

%name How to save your files from scary new ransomware without paying the ransom by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

A new type of PC ransomware hit users a couple of weeks ago and it’s some of the most dangerous malware of its kind. While previous ransomware apps would encrypt just specific personal data on a computer, Petya can encrypt a victim’s entire startup drive. That means you would not even be able to boot up your computer without the encryption password and in order to obtain it, you would have to pay the ransom.

However, it looks like there’s a critical error in Petya that lets anyone decrypt his or her hard drive for free, thanks to the work of a person who found the security hole in this malware tool – this goes to show that even hackers who create malware apps aren’t always able to ensure their security.

Everyone is calling Apple’s best iPhone 6s feature a failure – here’s why they’re wrong

The iPhone 6s’s key feature has come under some criticism from some Apple bloggers who dismiss it as just a gimmick that adds no real value to the user. But I believe that 3D Touch, as it is now, is something only Apple has. It’s a feature that has a greater scope for the future of iOS even though for the time being it’s certainly not a must-have feature.

Great big flat-panel televisions are getting ridiculously cheap these days, but you still need to cough up some serious cash if you want a truly high-end TV with a supersized screen. Of course they’re well worth the expense for many people. But just because you’re willing to pay extra money for one of the best TVs money can buy doesn’t mean you should just go out and buy a new set at full price.

Amazon has a sale going right now through Saturday that offers up to $1,000 off retail on three different Samsung TVs. There’s a 75-inch 4K model, an 85-inch 4K model, and a 75-inch 1080p model available. They’re all made by Samsung so they’re obviously all fantastic TVs, and they’re all massive enough to fill out any large space.

So, who else puts tape over their laptop’s webcam?

%name So, who else puts tape over their laptop’s webcam? by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

I admit it: I put tape over my computer’s webcam. This is a paranoid thing to do. That said, I spend so much time in front of my computer that if a hacker managed to infiltrate my webcam and record everything I do, I’m sure they’d get lots of footage of me doing something embarrassing or disgusting.

As I said earlier, I’m admittedly paranoid. But I’m not alone.

This the best iPhone email app that has ever existed and I can’t use it

%name This the best iPhone email app that has ever existed and I can’t use it by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

It’s not always easy to appreciate all of the hard work that goes into building mobile applications. This is especially true when they involved synchronizing data to remote servers, and even more true when they involve synchronizing data to remote servers when that data is also being synchronized with other devices. That’s one of the many reasons email is so difficult — beyond developing a novel and useful client, you also have to grapple with complex sync issues in order to put together a good solution.

Airmail for the iPhone is easily the best iOS email client the world has ever seen… but for me, it’s also completely unusable.
