Authorities think agents from China’s Ministry of State Security hacked Marriott

%name Authorities think agents from China’s Ministry of State Security hacked Marriott by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

We’re starting to get a clearer picture of who authorities believe is responsible for the massive hack of the Marriott hotel chain in recent weeks that compromised the data of more than 500 million customers.

According to new reports from The New York Times and The Washington Post, the hackers are suspected to be affiliated with China’s Ministry of State Security. While authorities caution their findings are still inconclusive, they say the methods of the hackers, along with a variety of clues related to the hack, tend to suggest it was state-sponsored, which is yet another headache in the already fraught relations between the US and China. Both countries, you’ll recall, are still locked in the makings of a tariff-fueled trade war, and the CFO of leading Chinese tech company Huawei has been arrested in Canada ahead of possible extradition to the US.

%name Smartphone camera designs are about to get even crazier by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

When the Galaxy S10 launches in February, it will be available in four versions, reports say, complete with four distinct camera setups. We’re looking at combinations of single and dual-lens selfie cams, as well as multi-lens rear cameras — that’s anywhere from two to four cameras on the back.

But a new leak tells us smartphone camera design is about to get even crazier in 2019, with one of Samsung’s most significant competitors working on a different multi-lens camera module for next year.

Russia is treating the space station hole like a forensic investigation

%name Russia is treating the space station hole like a forensic investigation by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

The strange hole that was found months ago in the Soyuz spacecraft attached to the International Space Station continues to be a major focus for Russian space agency Roscosmos. When it was first discovered, it was thought to be damage from a tiny space rock, but it quickly became clear that it was actually a hole that had been drilled prior to the spacecraft ever leaving Earth.

Russia was quick to boldly claim that it was likely intentional sabotage, but Roscosmos hasn’t made any definitive announcement regarding when the hole was drilled or by whom. To aid in its investigation, Russia conducted a planned spacewalk yesterday so that cosmonauts could inspect the damage from outside and gather samples. It’s becoming an unprecedented “whodunnit,” and it’s happening in space.

Intel Foveros isn’t the name of a new chip, but rather a technology that will allow the chipmaker to bundle various vertical chip components, and thus improve the speed of devices without having to wait for a new chip manufacturing process to mature, like the 10nm chips that it keeps postponing.

In other words, with Foveros, Intel will be able to stack all sorts of chips on top of each other, including CPU, memory, and others, without worrying about their respective underlying manufacturing technology.

%name NASA’s InSight lander just snapped its first selfie, and it’s a stunner by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

When it comes to robots on Mars, one of NASA’s many traditions is making sure its rovers snap a selfie or two while hanging out on the planet’s dusty surface. That tradition has continued with the newly-landed InSight lander, and NASA just published the robot’s first self-shot photo.

The image, which is stitched together from several different snapshots the machine sent back to Earth, gives NASA engineers a clear look at InSight’s surroundings and also lets them see the condition of the hardware that will spend the next several months listening closely to the inner workings of Mars.

Full cast revealed for live-action Star Wars series ‘The Mandalorian’

%name Full cast revealed for live action Star Wars series ‘The Mandalorian’ by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

Reactions to all four of the Star Wars movies that have come out since Disney took over the franchise have been decidedly mixed. Some people were concerned about The Force Awakens retreading old ground, while others didn’t like how many risks The Last Jedi took. Rogue One was generally well-received, but Solo was a big enough disaster to make the studio rethink its approach to the property and cancel at least one upcoming movie.

But the reason that many of us were excited to see the franchise rise from the dead (myself included) was to see how Disney would explore the rest of the Star Wars universe — the stories that don’t directly involve the Skywalker family. What is everyone else doing while Anakin, Luke, Leia, and Rey are deciding the fate of the universe?
