Elon Musk says ‘Sentry Mode’ will start rolling out next week

A few weeks ago, Elon Musk teased that the company was working on a new feature dubbed Sentry Mode. As the name somewhat implies, the feature would enable users to record 360 degree video of their car whenever an alarm is triggered or a serious incident is detected. The feature should make it easier for Tesla owners to piece together information and perhaps identify culprits in scenarios where a car is vandalized, damaged, or broken into.

Last we heard, Musk said that the feature was coming soon, which in Tesla-speak doesn’t really instill a lot of hope. Not to worry, Musk earlier today took to Twitter and revealed that Sentry Mode is slated to roll out sometime next week.

Vaccinations skyrocket in ‘anti-vaxxer’ county amid measles outbreak

%name Vaccinations skyrocket in ‘anti vaxxer’ county amid measles outbreak by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

Since the beginning of the year, things have been looking increasingly grim in parts of Oregon and Washington due to a measles outbreak that has affected dozens of people. The disease, which has spread rapidly between individuals who never received their childhood vaccines to prevent it, prompted officials to declare a state of emergency out of fear that it would continue to spread.

As KHN reports, hospitals in the area are dealing with a massive spike in the number of vaccination requests by parents who previously decided against the preventative shots for their children. Officials now report a 500% increase in the number of vaccines being administered when compared to the same time last year.

Chrome will finally get an official dark mode on Windows 10 and macOS

%name Chrome will finally get an official dark mode on Windows 10 and macOS by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

Google has been experimenting with a full-fledged dark mode for Chrome for quite some time, but the latest builds of Chrome Canary (an experimental version of Google’s browser that receives updates before the stable channel) show a feature that, at least on the surface, appears to be ready for prime time.

The most interesting part of the update is that dark mode turns on and off dynamically. In other words, if you adjust the system-wide theme on either a Windows 10 or macOS device, Chrome will automatically adjust to match it. In the current version of Canary, there isn’t any way to manually switch dark mode on and off, or to disable it altogether, but it’s unclear if the feature will be implemented the same way on the stable channel.

China’s space agency has had a busy year thus far, with a successful Moon landing and rover deployment as well as some pretty neat experiments that are offering scientists some interesting insights.

The country’s Chang’e 4 lander touched down on the far side of the Moon in early January, and while it’s been a long time since NASA sent anything to the lunar surface, the U.S. space agency’s Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter has a pretty good view of it from above. Now, as China continues to break new ground on the Moon’s least-studied side, NASA took the opportunity to snap an image of the landing site where the Chang’e 4 mission touched down.

Apple issues response regarding apps that record user screens without permission

%name Apple issues response regarding apps that record user screens without permission by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

The funny thing about Apple scandals is that insignificant issues are often magnified — with Bendgate being one obvious example — while worrisome issues never quite seem to gain traction in the mainstream press. To wit, a recent report revealed that a number of companies with popular iPhone apps have been using a third-party analytics service which allow them to track how customers use their apps, down to every single swipe and tap of a button.

While that may seem innocent enough, the service also provides a “session replay” service which allows companies to take snapshots of a user’s device without overt user-consent. In the process, sensitive personal information such as credit card information and passwords get transmitted to a third-party server. Some of the popular iPhone apps discovered to be using the aforementioned analytics service include Hotels.com, Expedia, and Air Canada.

This is the Kepler space telescope’s last image after nearly a decade of work

%name This is the Kepler space telescope’s last image after nearly a decade of work by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

It’s now been a few months since the Kepler space telescope bit the dust, but the work it did will still have an impact for a long time to come. In a new post, NASA reveals the telescope’s “Last Light‘ image, which is the final observation it made after nearly a decade of exoplanet hunting.

The image might not look all that interesting to us, especially when we’re used to seeing such lovely views of space, but Kepler’s mission was never to provide us with eye candy. The spacecraft was an incredibly powerful tool for observing far-off objects and, as it proved time and time again, it was incredibly good at finding new planets.

Thanos may be the person who snapped his fingers, killing half of all living beings in the known universe in Avengers: Infinity War, but it’s two guys who get most of the blame for it. One is a Guardian of the Galaxy, and the other is an old-school Avenger. Yes, I’m talking about Star-Lord and Thor, respectively. Both of them squandered their chances to prevent Thanos from fulfilling his mission. That’s what most Marvel fans think, at least, but I’ll tell you why you’re wrong about both of them, with a major focus on Star-Lord’s moment of weakness.

Astronomer offers entirely new theory to explain ‘alien probe’ asteroid

%name Astronomer offers entirely new theory to explain ‘alien probe’ asteroid by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

If there’s one story that left astronomers truly scratching their heads in 2018, it had to be the mysterious interstellar visitor known as Oumuamua. The odd cigar-shaped object flew through our Solar System in late 2017, and researchers spent much of last year just trying to figure out what the heck it was.

Theories are many, and scientists have suggested the usual suspects including a comet or asteroid, as well as more “out there” possibilities like an alien ship or probe. Now, one veteran astronomer is offering an entirely new theory, and he thinks he might have the evidence to back it up.
