The Apple Watch continues to dominate the booming smartwatch market

Apple has never disclosed unit sales for the Apple Watch and it’s entirely possible it never will. Especially now that Apple recently decided to keep iPhone unit sales a closely guarded secret, it stands to reason that we’ll never get official sales numbers for Apple’s smartwatch. Nonetheless, Apple executives have revealed that the Apple Watch continues to grow in popularity with each passing year. Driving the point home, Tim Cook during an interview last month said that revenue from the company’s wearable product line (which includes the Apple Watch and items like AirPods) is already higher than the revenue Apple saw from the iPod when the iconic music player was at its peak.

Apple’s latest update for iOS 12 makes it easier to manage subscriptions

%name Apple’s latest update for iOS 12 makes it easier to manage subscriptions by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

While it’s not perfect, Apple’s mobile operating system is relatively intuitive and easy to use. Were it not, the iPhone never would have taken off, but there are still several issues with iOS so baffling that it’s hard to imagine why Apple hasn’t addressed them yet. One of the more obvious pain points for users is the volume indicator, which dominates the screen when you try to adjust the volume. We have no idea when or if Apple will ever redesign that oversized popup, but another, more subtle problem appears to have finally been solved in a recent update.

Netflix logged all of the choices you made while watching ‘Bandersnatch’

Netflix late last year launched a brand new type of content — a choose-your-own-adventure film that let you make various choices while watching the movie, which would alter its course.

If you’ve seen Black Mirror: Bandersnatch, then you know what the film has to offer, and you’ve probably experienced various endings . It’s not the greatest Netflix film, and it doesn’t feel that interactive, but it’s a remarkable achievement for the company, as everything works without a hitch. It turns out, however, that there may be an unexpected side-effect of this type of genre, which Netflix wants to proliferate in the coming years, and that’s data collection.

Well, that’s a wrap for NASA’s Opportunity rover

%name Well, that’s a wrap for NASA’s Opportunity rover by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

We kind of new this news would be coming today but now it’s official: NASA’s Opportunity rover mission is now officially over. The trusty rover has refused to wake back up and respond to signals sent from Earth, and there was really nothing left for NASA to do but pull the plug.

At a news conference this afternoon NASA’s Opportunity team announced that it was all over. It’s definitely a sad day, but it’s hard to be upset when you consider the incredible job Opportunity did during its lengthy Mars adventure, and NASA is more than pleased with everything it accomplished during its time on the Red Planet.

Activision Blizzard cuts 800 workers, refocuses on hits like ‘Call of Duty’

%name Activision Blizzard cuts 800 workers, refocuses on hits like ‘Call of Duty’ by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

As everyone expected, the video game company whose various units publish everything from franchises like Call of Duty to Candy Crush has just announced a massive wave of layoffs affecting 8% of the company.

Activision Blizzard started informing employees Tuesday afternoon about the layoffs, which are believed to affect almost 800 workers of the 9,600 the company employed in 2018. CEO Bobby Kotick also disclosed the coming layoffs to investors during the company’s quarterly earnings call this week. Ironically, Kotick also praised Activision’s results for 2018, having hit a “record” once again — it’s just that the company still fell short of Wall Street’s expectations.

Because of that, it’s pressing forward with restructuring and layoffs, a restructuring that involves the company ditching some aspects of its business altogether, and doubling-down on its most lucrative game franchises.

Apple’s video service to launch in April, but HBO and Netflix may not be on board

%name Apple’s video service to launch in April, but HBO and Netflix may not be on board by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

With iPhone sales remaining stagnant and unlikely to see a significant boost until the roll out of 5G iPhones in 2020, it’s no secret that Apple has been making a concerted effort to boost revenue from its growing line of services. Apple Music, for example, continues to grow at an impressive clip, with Tim Cook revealing during the company’s most recent earnings conference call that the music streaming service now has upwards of 50 million subscribers.

Beyond music, Apple’s next big push into services centers on TV, and in particular, original programming. Over the past 18 months or so, Apple has been busy inking development deals with some of Hollywood’s most popular and influential content creators. And similar to Netflix’s strategy, the range of original programming Apple currently has in the pipeline spans all types of genres.

Rose Leslie says Kit Harington didn’t actually spoil ‘Game of Thrones’ season 8 for her

%name Rose Leslie says Kit Harington didn’t actually spoil ‘Game of Thrones’ season 8 for her by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

Kit Harington generated a massive wave of headlines in recent weeks, including one we shared with you here, thanks to an interview he gave to a British radio station. To recap: The actor who plays Jon Snow on HBO’s Game of Thrones said he’s told his wife how it all ends, and for some reason — we all speculated possibly relating to her displeasure with Jon Snow’s fate — she wouldn’t talk to Kit for a few days after that.

Now his wife Rose Leslie, who of course played the wildling Ygritte for a few seasons, is weighing in with her say. And it seems it didn’t actually go down like that. Per Rose, Jon kind of exaggerated the “not talking to him” part. Oh — and he apparently spoiled Season 7, not the ending to Season 8 we’re all dying to see.
