iPhone 6s Plus vs. Galaxy Note 5: Real world performance test (it’s not even close)

Enthusiastic Android fans have historically relied pretty heavily on benchmark test scores when making the case against Apple’s iPhone lineup. This “fight” is ridiculous to begin with, of course, but relying on benchmark scores that don’t even represent real world performance is even sillier. Of course, many of these fanboys came around to agree with that line of thinking on benchmarks once iPhones started to crush the competition in benchmark performance tests, beginning with the iPhone 5s and continuing right up to this year’s iPhone 6s.

Performance tests that measure real world use might be considered a better gauge than tests that measure things like processor performance, and one recent test pitted the new iPhone 6s Plus against the king of Android phablets, Samsung’s Galaxy Note 5, in what could be a relatively accurate depiction of how these phones perform in the real world.

Steve Cheney recently posted an interesting article detailing the platform advantages Apple enjoys on account of its in-house chip development team. When Apple first introduced the A4 back in 2010, many folks were shocked that Apple would invest the amount of time and money needed to bring such a complex component to fruition. But Steve Jobs, once he returned to Apple in the late 90s, became borderline obsessed with not having to rely on third-parties for anything. Whether it was developing Safari or buying a fingerprint sensor company outright, Apple today makes a point to own, whenever possible, all of the important technologies that comprise its products. The fact that Jobs was able to successfully extend this strategy to include the very processors that power Apple’s line of mobile products is truly impressive.

In fact, Cheney goes so far as to suggest that Jobs’ decision to hire an in-house team to create the A4 and the company’s subsequent line of blazing fast A-x processors was one of his greatest and most important strategic decisions.

Windows 10 is a major hit for Microsoft, with millions of users having updated their systems to the latest Windows version. Sure, the fact that the upgrade is offered free of charge for a year should help, but Windows 10 has been highly praised so far. At the same time, many criticized Microsoft’s decisions to track many things users do on their computers, potentially infringing user privacy, but the company has explained more than once why it collects data, and included options in Windows 10 settings so said tracking can be disabled.

Microsoft is far from being done with Windows 10 updates, and Insiders are getting a taste of the new features that are going to be available in an upcoming release.

We often come across stories that tend to put drones in a negative light, from cops in North Dakota being able to arm drones with tasers and tear gas to a fisherman attacking an innocent drone mid-flight. But we can put all of that aside for now and focus on some truly magnificent aerial footage captured by, you guessed it, a drone off the coast of Fourth Beach in Western Australia.
