Sign of alien life? Kepler telescope spots strange star
A distant star is getting a lot of attention from astronomers – possibly as a sign that alien life is out there.
The star KIC 8462852 was discovered through Planet Hunters, a citizen science program at Yale University. Taking data from the Kepler Space Telescope, volunteers go searching for signs of a drop in light due to orbiting exoplanets crossing in front of their parent stars.

Facebook looking to fix battery-stealing iPhone app
Several reports over the last few days that were echoed by many tech sites and on social channels revealed that Facebook might employ some shady tactics to perform background activities on iPhone even if a user decides to turn off Background App Refresh. Various theories tried to explain how Facebook is forcing background activity on iPhones, and it looks like Facebook is paying attention to these complaints. The company hasn’t explained what’s causing the issue, but it “hopes” to fix the problem shortly.

Incredible 360-degree interactive video of a plane taking off and landing from inside the cockpit
We’ve seen a number of incredible videos of planes taking off over the past few months, from this Russian fighter jet taking off vertically to this incredible cockpit footage of an F-16 ascending 15,000 feet in just 20 seconds. But this video here is just a little bit different.
Leveraging YouTube’s support for 360-degree interactive videos, Swiss Airlines recently posted some an incredible interactive video which provides users with a cockpit view of what it’s like to takeoff, fly, and land an Airbus A320. The video embedded below is from a flight that took off in Zurich and landed in Geneva.

Netflix wants to stream ‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens’ as soon as next year
We’re not sure how it happened, but somehow or another, Lucasfilm got everyone all excited for a new Star Wars movie. They brought on a director that most of us love, they seem to be treating the source material with the appropriate amount of reverence and even the trailers have looked fantastic up to this point.

Virgin on Thursday announced its first deployment of “Smart Wi-Fi Pavement,” which is really just a clever marketing term for the company’s new Wi-Fi hotspots that are embedded inside of manholes.
