Galaxy S10 buyers around the world will receive their preorders this week, as three of the four Galaxy S10 models that Samsung unveiled two weeks ago will hit stores. When the Galaxy S10 does arrive at your door, you should remember that the phone is made of glass, just like its predecessors and many high-end smartphones. While it’s protected by Gorilla Glass 6, the most durable smartphone glass coming from Corning, the Galaxy S10 won’t handle all types of accidental drops with grace, so you’ll need protective gear for it.

A report early on Wednesday said that Samsung is working on additional foldable smartphones beyond the Galaxy Fold that it unveiled a couple of weeks ago. Samsung is still trying to figure out exploring what buyers will need from a foldable handset while perfecting the components that go into such devices. And it appears that, while Samsung is ready to experiment with different Fold designs, the model that launches this spring might have a serious screen issue.

Samsung reportedly has two more foldable phones coming after the Galaxy Fold

%name Samsung reportedly has two more foldable phones coming after the Galaxy Fold by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

Say what you want about the novelty aspect of a foldable smartphone, but while this form factor is very much going to fall in the niche category for the time being, Samsung is nevertheless seriously committed to trying to spur excitement for this new style of handset. So much so that the smartphone maker apparently has two more foldable phones being prepped for after April’s release of the super-pricey Galaxy Fold.

That news comes via a Bloomberg report, which is in line with what we were already reporting back at the end of 2018. As we said in our post from November, for example, Samsung’s ambition is to apparently release at least 1 million foldable phone units a year, including new foldable phone versions each year similar to its Galaxy flagship device launches. In other words, Samsung never intended to put all its eggs in the Galaxy Fold basket.

Colossal asteroid will approach Earth on Friday, but we’ll be fine

%name Colossal asteroid will approach Earth on Friday, but we’ll be fine by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

NASA is always keeping an eye on space rocks that get anywhere near Earth, and 2019 has been a relatively calm year in terms of close passes. A recently discovered asteroid is going to make a not-super-close pass of Earth later this week, and while it doesn’t pose much of a threat to our planet it’s worth mentioning simply because of its size.

The rock, known as 2019 DN, is slated to arrive at its closest point to Earth this coming Friday, March 8th. At its nearest distance the asteroid will still be around 13 lunar distances away. One lunar distance is equal to the space between the Earth and our Moon, so it’s clear the asteroid has little chance of disrupting Earth during its flyby, and that’s a very good thing considering its size.

HBO’s new boss says that Netflix ‘doesn’t have a brand’

Not only is Netflix increasingly dealing with rivals emerging from almost every corner these days, with a handful of new streaming video operations launching over the next year or so backed by deep-pocketed corporate parents, but establishment players also keep dogging the streaming giant with negative comments about the way it does business. And about the way Netflix is regarded by the general public and entertainment industry alike.

Word emerged in recent days, for example, that director Steven Spielberg is trying to convince his fellow members of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences to get on board with a recommended rules change that would box Netflix out of the Oscars. By way of explaining his position, Spielberg told ITV that streamers like Netflix should be eligible for Emmys, not Oscars. “Once you commit to a television format, you’re a TV movie. If it’s a good show, you deserve an Emmy. But not an Oscar.”

NASA’s InSight lander tried to dig into Mars, but Mars had other plans

NASA has been quite pleased with the progress of the InSight lander mission, with just about everything going as well as could be expected. A smooth launch, easy flight to Mars and impeccable landing on the Red Planet’s surface had NASA feeling pretty upbeat, but Mars can be unforgiving.

The lander, which recently deployed listening tools to monitor the inner workings of the planet, began its efforts to dig into the dusty soil late last week, but things aren’t going nearly as smoothly as InSight’s engineers had hoped.
