Chinese government praises Huawei for suing the US and not being ‘silent lambs’

At this point, it’s starting to seem unusual if there’s not a new development in the ongoing saga of Huawei from one day to the next. The latest drama in the smartphone maker’s long-running beef with the US is the lawsuit that the China-based brand filed against the US on Thursday, arguing that the government’s ban of Huawei handsets and other technology is unconstitutional.

And now China, which Huawei has long tried to distance itself from even as US officials argue the company is too cozy with the repressive government there, has chimed in, like some kind of eyebrow-raising hype man for Huawei. The top diplomat in the country applauded the company for filing suit instead of letting itself by “victimized like silent lambs.”

Galaxy S10 will ship with Spotify pre-installed and six free months of premium

Whether we’re talking about iPhones or Android devices, there’s no better piece of digital real estate than an app situated directly on a smartphone homescreen right out of the box. Indeed, prime placement on iOS is why Apple services like Maps and Apple Music managed to become so successful in a relatively short time frame.

In light of that, Spotify earlier today announced that its app will come pre-installed across the entirety of Samsung’s 2019 smartphone lineup, a list of devices which includes the company’s S10 models and even the Galaxy Fold. What’s more, Samsung buyers will be able to enjoy six free months of Spotify Premium right out of the gate.

Google Assistant is getting an update that makes it easier to talk to

%name Google Assistant is getting an update that makes it easier to talk to by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

Having a conversation that feels natural with a digital assistant is still not in the same league as a person-to-person interaction, but there are certainly some assistive technologies that do a reasonably good job of mimicking it. We’d put Google Assistant in that category, thanks to the natural-sounding voice and the assistant’s ability to understand a wide range of the complexities of human conversation.

Still, that’s not to say certain things can’t be improved, which is why Google is starting to add support for its “Continued Conversation” feature to smart displays like the Google Home Hub. Basically, it’s a way to not have to keep prompting the assistant with a “Hey, Google” trigger so that you can keep a conversation going.

Tesla faces stiff competition as Porsche plans to boost Taycan production

%name Tesla faces stiff competition as Porsche plans to boost Taycan production by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

It’s starting to look like Porsche’s forthcoming Taycan is poised to give Tesla some serious competition in the luxury EV space. Earlier this year, word surfaced that Porsche was doubling production from 20,000 units to 40,000 units due to overwhelmingly strong demand. While that was nothing more than a rumor, Porsche has since confirmed plans to boost Taycan production, though the company didn’t disclose exact figures.

In a statement earlier today, Porsche’s Detlev von Platen — the company’s chief of sales and marketing — said the following: “The overwhelming interest in the Taycan shows us that our customers and fans are just as excited about the first Porsche electric athlete as we are. We’ve therefore increased our production capacities.”

Cancer-targeting compound could be a breakthrough in treating brain tumors

%name Cancer targeting compound could be a breakthrough in treating brain tumors by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

A new compound discovered by scientists at Scripps Research may prove to be a powerful weapon in the fight against one of the most aggressive and deadly types of cancer. Just like the cancer it fights, the compound is incredibly strong, selectively targeting the cells that allow glioblastoma multiforme (GBM) to rapidly take over the brain.

The research, which was published in a new paper in Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, explains how the stem-like cancer cells of GBM promote growth of the tumor while also aiding it in recurrence even after a patient has had surgery. Stopping these cells from doing their deadly deed is crucial to successful treatment, and the new compound — which the scientists have nicknamed RIPGBM — does just that.
