Even though Apple regularly has issues with supplies when one of its products launches, we’ve rarely seen an epic debacle like the one currently going on with the Apple Watch, where many people who preordered the device on the first day still have no clue when they will get it. The Wall Street Journal has just published a new report that reveals Apple discovered some serious with the taptic engines in many Apple Watches and had to pull them before they could ship. The Journal says Apple found taptic engines supplied by Chinese manufacturer AAC Technologies Holdings Inc. broke down significantly over time, which forced Apple to destroy a huge batch of finished watches.

I’m not sure if it should be a source of embarrassment or pride (or perhaps neither), but I was up and running on Facebook back in late 2004, back when Friendster was still the top dog of social networking. As a student at the time, I was able to witness first-hand how quickly Facebook was able to secure a foothold in the daily lives of college students. Writing on “the wall” on your friends’ pages, poking people, joining an endless string of groups — these were just a few of the many fun and quirky features why helped Facebook became an instant hit with students.

Still, at the time no one could have really predicted that Facebook would go on to become a household name, not just in tech, but across the globe. That said, it’s always interesting to take a stroll back in time and look at how Facebook was viewed well before it became the de facto social network it is today.

Starting in the summer of 2011, a number of airlines, including Alaska Airlines and Delta, began replacing voluminous paper manuals with iPads on some of its planes. The iPads came pre-loaded with anything and everything a pilot might need to access during a flight, including aeronautical charts, operating manuals, along with a slew of other reference materials.

By 2013, this practice became commonplace, so much so that American Airlines began using iPads across its entire fleet of aircraft, the first major commercial airline to do so.

And so, as luck would have it, American Airlines is also the first major airline to see its planes grounded due to malfunctioning iPads. On Tuesday evening, a number of iPads designated for cockpit use began shutting down unexpectedly, causing a number of flight delays across major U.S. cities.

Google’s Project Ara smartphones are not yet widely available, and neither are any other similar devices from the competition. But it’s more than apparent that some users are interested in such features from mobile devices. However, rather than making a new modular phone concept, one company has conceived a different kind of device that can offer the same sort of module-based experience to existing smartphones, including the iPhone.

Meet Nexpaq, a modular smartphone case for iPhone 6 and Android devices (including Galaxy S6, Galaxy S6 edge and Galaxy S5) that just launched on Kickstarter looking to raise $50,000.
