Gamescom only just began, but Microsoft has already made a splash with a couple of huge Xbox One bundles, some exclusive game announcements and a software update that Xbox One (and PS4) owners have been waiting for since the consoles launched last fall. Major Nelson took to the Xbox Wire shortly before the media briefing kicked off to announce that a full-scale media player would finally be coming to the Xbox One.

Facebook has recently decided to force all its mobile users to install its Facebook Messenger application for messaging purposes rather than letting them chat via the official Facebook mobile app. The move wasn’t received well at all by Facebook users and Android users in particular have been wondering why the Messenger app needs so much access to various phone resources in order to offer messaging features. To put their concerns to rest, Facebook explained on a new support page why Messenger needs so many permissions.

Siri was incredibly cool when it first came on the iPhone 4s out back in 2011 but times have changed and our expectations are much higher for what a digital personal assistant can do for us. Wired has a huge in-depth new report on a startup called Viv Labs, which was cofounded by three engineers who originally worked on Siri and who are now building a “radical new AI” that will make Siri look positively primitive by comparison.

Comcast really, really doesn’t like it when you talk about the enormous piles of cash it’s burning to jam its proposed merger with Time Warner Cable through the regulatory process. Comcast was not at all happy when we wrote about its decision to invite an attorney at the Department of Justice’s antitrust division to a Winter Olympics kickoff party less than a month before it announced its plan to merge with TWC, for instance. And now Politico reports that Comcast again finds itself in the midst of controversy after it recently revealed that it will be paying $110,000 to sponsor a dinner honoring current FCC commissioner Mignon Clyburn.

Apple has started making its 2014 iPad models, Bloomberg has learned, and the company is expected to launch two new tablets in the coming months. While not many details have been shared about the larger 9.7-inch iPad Air 2 model, the publication says that Apple will use a new anti-reflection coating on the tablet, to make the display easier to read.

Following a series of image leaks that showed both the purported design of the Galaxy Note 4 and its retail box, new images have surfaced that allegedly show the display assembly of Samsung’s next-gen flagship phablet. Originating from Korea, and found by GSM Arena, the pictures show the front panel of a Samsung device as well as the actual display of the handset.

We’ve seen plenty of videos featuring awful FedEx deliveries over the years but we don’t think we’ve ever seen them put together in one horrifying package. Thankfully for us, YouTube user RSVLTS has decided to do the dirty work and make a video compilation of every single terrible FedEx delivery he could find on the Internet, including one delivery man who punts a box onto a house’s roof and another who just tosses a box containing a giant computer monitor over a fence.

Now insider Sonny Dickson – who has a good track record reporting on Apple unreleased devices and leaking pictures showing such devices – has taken to Twitter to share with the world two high-resolution images of the iPhone 6’s metal backplate.
