The world has Android 5.0 fever, and while most Android device owners will have to wait until next year at the earliest to get Lollipop on their phones and tablets, enthusiastic Google fans don’t have to wait another minute. We told you earlier this week that near-final versions of Android 5.0 Lollipop had been made available for some Android devices, including the Google’s “pure” Nexus 5 and Nexus 4 smartphones, as well as one version of the Nexus 7 tablet.

Well, thanks to the XDA Developers forum, the latest version of Android 5.0 can now be downloaded and installed on those devices and many others.

Microsoft set the Internet ablaze yesterday with the announcement that all of the Office mobile apps would be free to download on iOS and Android phones and tablets, but there are a few provisions worth noting. PCWorld got in touch with Microsoft in order to find out exactly which features would be free for all mobile users and which would require a subscription to Office 365.

IOS 8 has been out for more than a month now. In fact, we already saw Apple release its first major update to the platform last month when iOS 8.1 brought bug fixes and a few new features such as Apple Pay. When we reviewed Motorola’s second-generation Moto X back in September, we called it the best Android phone in the world. Of course, a lot has changed since then. Bigger phones have been released. Faster phones have been released. More powerful phones have been released. In fact, Motorola itself launched a smartphone last week that fits all three of those criteria. What hasn’t been released, however, is a better smartphone. Regular BGR readers will know that when it comes to smartphone cases, I am not a fan. Industrial design, ergonomics and materials are all hugely important pieces of the smartphone experience, and cases typical spoil all of them. As strongly as I dislike cases, however, I almost always have a case on my iPhone 6. As anyone who has ever held one knows, the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus are the most slippery phones on the face of the planet.

Beyond that, not using a case on Apple’s new iPhones leaves them vulnerable to a few troublesome issues, namely “Bendgate” and “Dyegate.”

So, the task for me has become finding the least offensive cases out there that will protect my iPhone 6 without making it look and feel hideous in the process.

So you think you’re going to save money by canceling your cable TV service and watching your favorite shows through online streaming options? Sure, that may work at first but cable companies will still figure out how to get their pound of flesh from you unless they face real competition in the home broadband market.
