The internet is a necessity nowadays, not a luxury, yet there are still plenty of logistical wrinkles to iron out. We’re not happy with overall internet speeds or slow uploads, and no one can stand data caps. We also hate problematic Wi-Fi and poor LTE coverage. At the same time, internet consumption is at an all-time high and it’s only increasing.

Thankfully, it looks like one company has figured out how to deliver internet speeds as fast as fiber to your home without actually needing fiber optic cables to do it. And it’s not just an experiment that works in a lab — it’s a product that’ll soon be deployed, with AT&T being one of the first companies to use it.

Each iPhone Apple launches is faster than its predecessor thanks to both hardware and software innovations. The same goes for high-end Android devices, though in most comparison tests it’s always the latest iPhone that comes out on top. At the same time, mobile operating systems become more sophisticated every year, requiring software optimizations as well as faster chips, memory and storage so that advanced apps don’t hinder performance.

IBM might hold the key to making the iPhone even faster in the future, in addition to other mobile devices and computers, thanks to innovation surrounding optical storage that might revolutionize the industry.

Some iPhone fans are already unhappy to hear that the iPhone 7 might be strikingly similar to the iPhone 6s when it comes to overall design. Apple trained us to expect fresh iPhone designs every two years, and recent leaks suggest that might not happen this year. But that’s not a bad thing. In fact, a new report says that the iPhone 7 might be “more complex” to build than any of its predecessors, which sounds like great news and could hint that we can expect some exciting new features in tow.

There are many apps that have facial recognition capabilities, but most facial recognition software isn’t necessarily smart, or at least not as smart as Faception. The software uses a combination of tools to identify the traits of a person by simply looking at his or her face. The app could be used to pick the next Steve Jobs from a crowd, or simply point out those individuals in a busy airport terminal that might be carrying suicide bombs.

I’m on a lifelong hunt for the perfect smartphone keyboard. Nothing out there is perfect — the right key layout always comes with the wrong prediction engine or the option key in the wrong place.

But as it turns out, Swiftkey has secretly been working on an Android keyboard with emoji support that is, technically speaking, the perfect medium for communication.

Why are Apple’s iPhone icons shaped as rounded squares?

%name Why are Apple’s iPhone icons shaped as rounded squares? by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

With very few exceptions — Apple Music being chief among them — every design decision from Apple is deliberate and extremely well thought out. As we highlighted not too long ago, Apple’s laser-focused attention to detail in both software and hardware is obsessive.

But when it comes to the iPhone, Steve Jobs’ crowning creation and the most profitable product to ever come out of Cupertino, Apple takes things to another level. It’s why former Apple executive Scott Forstall once boasted of keeping a “jeweler’s loupe in his office to check every pixel on every icon.”
