41% of coronavirus deaths in the entire US occurred in New York and New Jersey

  • The number of coronavirus deaths in the United States recently surpassed 100,000.
  • An estimated 41% of those deaths occurred in just two states: New York and New Jersey.

Earlier this week, the number of coronavirus-related deaths in the United States reached 100,000. And though the coronavirus is finally starting to subside in a number of large U.S. cities, the number of cases in states like Arkansas and West Virginia is starting to spike. This, coupled with the fact that many states are planning to reopen over the next few days and weeks, has led some to believe that a second wave of the coronavirus may be on its way.

What’s interesting, though perhaps not surprising, is that an estimated 41% of all coronavirus deaths in the United States occurred in New York or New Jersey. The data, which comes from Johns Hopkins University, notes that the two states have reported 29,350 and 11,339 deaths, respectively.

The best thing about HBO Max doesn’t even actually exist yet

%name The best thing about HBO Max doesn’t even actually exist yet by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley
  • HBO Max is the newest player in the Streaming Wars, launching on Wednesday for $15/month for new subscribers and including 10,000 hours of content to start with.
  • One of the most high-profile additions to the streamer, however, won’t actually arrive until 2021.
  • That’s when HBO Max will add the long-awaited director’s cut of Zack Snyder’s Justice League, often referred to by fans as the “Snyder Cut.”

HBO Max, the new streaming service from AT&T’s WarnerMedia that executives hope can stand as a credible threat to Netflix, launched with much fanfare on Wednesday and brings subscribers a value proposition that includes 10,000 hours of content right out of the gate. If you’re a new subscriber, the price is a bit steep compared to other streaming products (at $15/month) — but, at the same time, millions of people will have access to HBO Max right away for free, either because they’re already an HBO subscriber or they’re existing AT&T customers. If you’re on AT&T’s best wireless plan, for example, you can get HBO Max at no extra charge (the AT&T Unlimited Elite plan, which includes the new streamer, at $50 per line a month). Additionally, customers who already have HBO through AT&T now have instant access to HBO Max at no extra charge.

The CDC updated its coronavirus isolation and quarantine guidance

%name The CDC updated its coronavirus isolation and quarantine guidance by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley
  • Coronavirus isolation and quarantine are procedures that are still necessary, even if lockdown measures have been eased and countries are trying to return to a sense of normality.
  • Separating people who may have been exposed to COVID-19 and patients who are isolating at home can help reduce the spread and prevent the novel coronavirus from infecting others.
  • The CDC has updated its pages with new information on how to handle the exit from isolation and quarantine if testing isn’t available.

Remember back in early April when we still had so many questions about the novel coronavirus? Like, how long should you stay in isolation after coronavirus symptoms go away? At the time, we told you that based on the CDC and WHO’s advice, you should be ready to spend anywhere from 3 to 14 days in isolation after your symptoms subside, especially if COVID-19 testing isn’t available in your area. “The fact is that we just don’t know when a COVID-19 survivor stops being contagious,” we wrote, explaining all the data that was available on the subject. Since then, we’ve learned a lot of new things about the virus, including the fact that patients will not be contagious anymore 11 days after the onset of symptoms. The latest research from Singapore cited several other studies, including one that we looked at back in April.

Separately, the CDC has now updated its quarantine guidance. The agency says that individuals who are isolating due to a possible COVID-19 infection should stay away from others until they’ve gone at least 3 days with no fever, the symptoms have improved, and 10 days have passed since the symptoms first appeared.

PS5 reveal event next week might be even bigger than expected

%name PS5 reveal event next week might be even bigger than expected by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley
  • Sony is expected to host a long-awaited PS5 reveal event on Wednesday, June 3rd.
  • According to gaming journalist Alanah Pearce, Sony has planned multiple events already this year, but ended up scrapping them all because they weren’t “professional” enough.
  • Pearce says the PS5 event might be “huge” and have “a lot of games” and “some reveals.”

Barring any major disruptions, Sony will finally host its first major PlayStation 5 event on Wednesday, June 3rd. While Microsoft has been regularly sharing news about the Xbox Series X for months, Sony has been quiet. We’ve watched a deep dive into the system architecture and were introduced to the DualSense controller, but there’s still plenty that we don’t know, including what the PS5 looks like and what games will be available at launch.

According to multiple reports, Sony will solve some of those mysteries at its big event next week. VentureBeat’s Jeff Grubb says that Sony “seems aware of the backlash that Microsoft faced for its first Xbox 20/20 event,” which did not feature games from many major studios and lacked the promised gameplay footage. It seems unlikely that Sony will make the same mistakes. But why has it taken so long for us to learn more about the PS5?

The crazy camera that lets your phone see inside anything is only $30 for a few more days

%name The crazy camera that lets your phone see inside anything is only $30 for a few more days by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley
  • Great deals have started to pop up on Amazon once again, so you can find plenty more in stock these days than just best-selling coronavirus face masks and hand sanitizer.
  • One of the most popular deals we’ve covered this week is on the Depstech WF010 Wireless Borescope Snake Camera, a device that connects to your iPhone or Android wirelessly and lets you see inside just about anything.
  • It’s on sale right now for just over $30, but the special on-site coupon you can clip to get the savings is set to expire very soon.

If you’ve never head of the Depstech WF010 Wireless Borescope Snake Camera before, it’s high time you check it out. Once you get one and you see how wonderfully useful it can be in tons of different situations, you’ll wonder how you lived without one for so long.

There are three main pieces of the puzzle here. First, The WF010 has a small box that houses a battery, some circuitry, and a Wi-Fi radio. Next comes the 11.5-foot-long “snake” part of the device, which is a semi-rigid tube that can be extended and shaped however you want. Finally, there’s a camera on the end of the tube that captures live video as you snake the camera into anything and everything you want.

DEPSTECH Wireless Endoscope, IP67 Waterproof WiFi Borescope Inspection 2.0 Megapixels HD Snake…: $30.39

There are so many great uses for this device that it’s difficult to know where to begin, so let’s first cover exactly what it does. The WF010 connects wirelessly to your iPhone, iPad, or Android device and turns it into a remote viewfinder and controller. You can see exactly what the camera sees as you snake it into something, and you can also use the phone to record video or capture still photos.

Here’s a quick blurb from a 5-star review on Amazon that explains one of the countless use cases for it:

I had a water leak in my wall. I didn’t know where it was and the Endoscope enabled me to find it by drilling 1/2 inch holes in the wall. I was amazed when I found the water pipe with the hole in it (see image). Hiring a plumber could have cost me over $500, but I was able to isolate the problem and fix the leak for less than $100 (including the cost of the scope).

It’s waterproof, by the way, so that reviewer didn’t have to worry about getting the borescope wet. Here’s another Amazon review:

Worked perfectly to help me get a gas can protector cap out of my tractor gas tank. Handled a half hour deep in diesel gas, no problems!

That second one is of particular interest because it touches upon something else you can do with this Depstech borescope. It comes with a few attachments that clip to the end and add all sorts of functionality. Once cool one is a mirror that lets you see around corners as you work the camera into a tight space. Then there’s a hook attachment that lets you fish things like keys and jewelry out of places you might otherwise never reach. That’s the attachment the reviewer above used to retrieve the cap from his gas can.

There’s a reason the Depstech WF010 Wireless Borescope Snake Camera is one of the most popular smartphone accessories we’ve ever covered: it’s awesome. It’s also on sale right now close to its lowest price of the year right now if you clip the 20% coupon on the Amazon page — just $30.39. Definitely pick one up while it’s on sale at a deep discount and email us to let us know how you used it. Maybe we’ll feature your story next time it goes on sale!

DEPSTECH Wireless Endoscope, IP67 Waterproof WiFi Borescope Inspection 2.0 Megapixels HD Snake…: $30.39

There’s another, newer model available as well called the Depstech WF060 Wireless Borescope Camera, and it offers a few big advantages over the WF010. First, it’s got a much higher-resolution camera that packs 5 megapixels instead of 2 megapixels. Second, it supports zoom that you can control right from within the app. And third, it’s longer at 16.5 feet instead of 11.5, so it can be fed even deeper into tight spaces. Use clip the coupon on the product page and you can snag one for just $62.69 instead of $66. It’s a small discount, but it’ll definitely be appreciated by anyone who wants a big upgrade.

Google Maps just got an awesome new feature that reinvents addresses

%name Google Maps just got an awesome new feature that reinvents addresses by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley
  • A new Google Maps update for Android will introduce a brand new feature that’s not available in other navigation apps.
  • Google Maps users will be able to obtain a unique identifier for any place on Earth, and use these digital addresses for various purposes.
  • These new Google Maps “Plus Code” addresses are based on longitude and latitude, and they could help people who don’t have an address or have addresses that are difficult to locate for a wide range of reasons.

Google on Thursday announced a brand new Google Maps feature that will provide an additional layer of utility to the world’s most popular mapping app. Starting with Android, Google Maps users will be able to share precise locations on the map by assigning a unique digital address to any place. The feature is intended to offer an address to people who don’t actually have one, or to people who have an address that’s tough to find. But it might come in handy in additional situations as well.

You won’t believe these 3 Fire TV deals on Amazon, with prices starting at $140

%name You won’t believe these 3 Fire TV deals on Amazon, with prices starting at $140 by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley
  • After months of seeing devices in Amazon’s other device lines go on sale, Amazon is finally hosting a massive Fire TV sale this week.
  • The best-selling deals are on the Fire TV Stick and Fire TV Stick 4K, of course, but flat-screen TVs with Fire TV software are also available at their lowest prices in months.
  • You’ll find discounts up to $80 and pricing that starts at just $139.99, but these deals are almost done so you’ll need to hurry.

Not all “smart TVs” are created equal. You know it just as well as we do. Televisions from Samsung, Sony, LG, and others can obviously run apps and they’re fine if all you want to do is stream movies and shows from Netflix. But there is simply no TV maker will ever support all the apps and games you want with proprietary smart TV software. That means regardless of whether or not you buy a “smart TV,” you’ll need to make it even smarter by adding a streaming media player like a Fire TV Stick (on sale for $29.99 right now!), Roku device, or an Apple TV.

Now, there is a very important exception that everyone should know about. Some vendors sell televisions that ditch the proprietary platforms and instead have Fire TV software or Roku software built right in. That’s pretty much the only time you’ll get away with not having to buy a separate streaming media player. And right now, several of the best options out there that have Fire TV software or Roku software preinstalled are on sale at their lowest prices of 2020. In fact, the two Fire TV Edition televisions we’re going to tell you about have been discounted all week, but they both just got even deeper discounts this morning!

First and foremost, the Insignia NS-32DF310NA19 32-inch Smart HD TV – Fire TV Edition is the single best-selling television on Amazon’s entire site. It’s perfect for a guest bedroom, the kitchen, or any other space where you need a compact TV. This model retails for $170 but right now you can pick one up for just $139.99.

Insignia NS-32DF310NA19 32-inch Smart HD TV – Fire TV Edition: $139.99

If you need something a bit larger for your living room, the basement, or your master bedroom, it doesn’t get much better than the Insignia NS-50DF711SE21 50-inch Smart 4K UHD TV – Fire TV Edition. It has a stunning display, 4K resolution, and it’s on sale for $299.99 right now instead of $350.

Insignia NS-50DF711SE21 50-inch Smart 4K UHD TV – Fire TV Edition – Limited Version: $299.99

Want to go even bigger? You can save $80 today on a top-of-the-line Toshiba TF-55A810U21 55-inch Smart 4K UHD with Dolby Vision and DTS TruSurround TV – Fire TV Edition. That slashes the price from $450 to $369.99, and it’s a fantastic deal.

Toshiba TF-55A810U21 55-inch Smart 4K UHD with Dolby Vision and DTS TruSurround TV – Fire TV Ed…: $369.99

Last but certainly not least, the $330 TCL 43S425 43 Inch 4K Ultra HD Smart Roku LED TV is on sale today for only $229.99. That’s a huge $100 discount! It runs Roku software instead of Fire TV, of course, so it’s a great option if you prefer the Roku experience.

Coronavirus may easily spread from flushing the toilet

%name Coronavirus may easily spread from flushing the toilet by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley
  • Scientists say they found high levels of coronavirus in the poop of COVID-19 patients.
  • The researchers suggest that aerosolized feces — tiny poop particles floating in the air — could spread the disease to healthy people.
  • Aerosolized feces can be created by flushing a toilet after using it, recent studies have found.

Determining how the novel coronavirus spreads is a big factor in keeping people safe. We already know that it can easily be passed from one person to another via droplets from the mouth or nose that may enter the respiratory system of a healthy person, but there are other routes of transmission that are only just now being studied.

One possibility that has been presented by scientists is that the fecal matter of coronavirus patients may hold the live virus. New research out of China suggests that’s the case, and warns that potential fecal-oral and fecal-respiratory transmission should be studied further.

Amazon’s AirPods Pro and AirPods 2 sale with all-time low prices is about to end

%name Amazon’s AirPods Pro and AirPods 2 sale with all time low prices is about to end by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley
  • Whether you’re in the market for a new pair of AirPods Pro or AirPods 2, you definitely need to make your decision today because you’re running out of time to get them at Amazon’s lowest prices ever.
  • All three of Apple’s various AirPods models had been on sale at all-time low prices, but Amazon’s discount on entry-level AirPods has already decreased from $30 to $20.
  • AirPods Pro are still down to $227.99 and AirPods 2 with wireless charging are a whopping $50 off, but both of these deals will likely end soon.

If you follow the BGR Deals team’s coverage — and you obviously do, since you don’t want to miss all the best deals out there each day — you know that Apple’s AirPods have been on sale this week at their lowest prices ever on Amazon. That includes the highly sought-after AirPods Pro as well as both of Apple’s AirPods 2 models, with discounts up to $50. The good news is that two of the three deals are still available on Amazon as the week draws to a close. But the bad news is that one of the three deals has already ended, which likely means that the other two aren’t far behind.

Starting with the most popular model of the three, Apple’s wildly popular AirPods Pro true wireless noise cancelling earbuds are still available right now on Amazon at the lowest price ever. They retail for $240 but the price is down to $229.99 thanks to a big discount. Then you’ll find that an additional $2 is taken off the price at checkout, which makes the final sale price just $227.99. They’re also in stock right now with free Prime shipping, so they’ll arrive in most locations around the country within just a few days.

Apple AirPods Pro: $227.99

Next up, AirPods 2 with Wireless Charging Case still have the biggest discount both in terms of dollar value and in terms of the percentage of the price drop. These $199 headphones can be had for just $149.98 today. That matches the new all-time low price that Amazon cut them to earlier this month, so you’ll never find a better deal on these earphones than this one. What’s more, they’re in stock right now and they ship out right away.

Apple AirPods with Wireless Charging Case: $149.98

If you’re looking to spend as little as possible and you don’t care about wireless charging, you can still save $20 on entry-level AirPods 2. They were on sale for $129.99 earlier this week and that deal is done, which is definitely a bummer. They’re still on sale for $139 though, and you won’t find a lower price anywhere else.

GOP kept state rep’s coronavirus infection a secret and let him keep working without a mask

  • A Pennsylvania state lawmaker tested positive for coronavirus but kept it a secret from some colleagues.
  • Representative Andrew Lewis also allegedly told his GOP colleagues about the diagnosis but Republicans chose not to relay that information to the Democrats they work closely with.
  • At least four other state lawmakers have self-quarantined due to their exposure to Lewis.

If we’re going to have any hope of fighting off the coronavirus pandemic as we wait for a vaccine to be developed, we need to know who has it and who doesn’t. You’d think that elected officials would be at the forefront of this movement, but if you were expecting Republican state lawmakers in Pennsylvania to come clean when they found out a colleague tested positive, you’re about to be sorely disappointed.

GOP state representative Andrew Lewis revealed that he tested positive for COVID-19, ironically receiving the results on the same day that the state held a “reopen rally.” Lewis allegedly informed his GOP colleagues of his diagnosis but continued to perform his duties in meetings and on the Pennsylvania house floor, potentially exposing many others to the virus.
