There are many reasons why Android users switch to iPhone, and vice-versa, but Apple may have a secret (or not-so-secret) weapon that could pressure some Android fans to considering a move to the other side. No, it’s not Apple Pay, an exclusive iPhone 6 feature that’s heavily marketed by various banks in the U.S., further helping Apple market its 2014 iPhones. It’s actually a stock iOS app that has been hiding in plain sight for years.

America has never been as fat as it is right now. And I had never been as fat as I was seven months ago.
I don’t usually discuss personal matters here on the site, but weight is a serious issue that hundreds of millions of people around the world struggle with constantly. According to a report released earlier this month by the World Health Organization, more than 600 million adults across the globe were obese in 2014, and almost 2 billion were categorized as overweight. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention state that more than one-third of all adults in America — 78.6 million people — are obese.
In early July, I was one of those 78.6 million obese Americans. At 6 feet tall and 235 pounds, my Body Mass Index (BMI) was 31.9, just north of the CDC’s obesity threshold of 30.
Today, at 172 pounds, my BMI is 23.3, which falls within the CDC’s “normal” range of 18.5-24.9.
I worked hard to get where I am right now, and I still have work left to do. It took a lot of exercise and discipline, but technology also played a big role in my efforts, and in this post I’ll explain how I did it.

You might think of iPhone owners as an insular crowd, constantly upgrading from one device to the next, year after year, but Tim Cook says that’s not the case. In an interview with The Wall Street Journal, Cook said that fewer than 15% of iPhone 6 and 6 Plus sales came from customers upgrading from another iPhone.
Instead, a majority of them switched from Android.

No matter how advanced our gadgets get from year to year, the fact remains that battery technology isn’t able to keep up. Just look at the Apple Watch, a smartwatch that’s going to be more powerful than the first iPad, but which will need constant charging. Similarly, many mobile devices that are already available in stores aren’t able to meet the battery needs of all consumers either, even though handset makers are constantly devising ways to improve battery life.
One such battery project belonging to MIT startup SolidEnergy might provide a solution for significantly increasing battery life on mobile devices starting as soon as this year.

Android 5.0 Lollipop is a huge upgrade for Google’s mobile operating system. The only problem with it, of course, is that it’s only available for a handful of devices. Most Android smartphone users still have plenty more waiting to do before Lollipop is finally available for their handset, but now there’s a terrific app that will make your older version of Android look just like Lollipop — and it’s free!

After various reports detailed Qualcomm’s alleged overheating issues with the Snapdragon 810 flagship processor — which the chip maker subsequently denied — many publications said Samsung decided against using the component in its upcoming flagship. Some said that only initial Galaxy S6 batches will lack the chip, as Qualcomm fixes performance issues, while others speculated that Samsung might be actually interested in ditching its reliance on top Qualcomm chips for smartphone devices.
The semiconductor giant on Wednesday announced unexpected growth for the December quarter, The Wall Street Journal reports, but also cut outlook for its 2015 fiscal year, suggesting that it may indeed have lost a key job that will impact its bottom line.

There are two times of the year that are the most exciting for enthusiastic Apple fans. The first comes in June, when Apple uses its annual Worldwide Developers Conference each year to debut a brand new version of its iOS platform. The second, of course, is in the late summer or early fall, when Apple releases iOS alongside at least one new iPhone model — though moving forward, we’re likely looking at two or more new iPhone models each year.
It’s still only January, but Apple is already hard at work on iOS 9, which is expected to include some major enhancements. Now, benchmark test results from an iPhone 6 running an early version of the next-generation software have been revealed for the first time.
