To prove how insanely dependable the iPhone 5s’ camera is, Apple shot entire commercials using the device in early 2014 before using Macs to edit the raw footage. While that was a marketing stunt, it doesn’t mean the iPhone can’t be used to shoot professional video, and one filmmaker proved just that at the Sundance Film Festival.

Google’s Android platform has basically become to smartphones what Windows has long been for desktop computers and laptops — that is, it’s the dominant player in terms of raw market share. Microsoft is obviously not happy that it missed the boat on the smartphone revolution but it may have come up with an ingenious way to undermine Google’s control over Android.

Samsung will soon unveil its next major flagship smartphone, the Galaxy S6, which might be released in two distinct versions in the coming months, including a regular model and an “Edge” version. Reports from South Korea detailing some of Samsung’s statements related to its recent earnings report — it’s fifth quarterly decline in a row, and the first annual earnings decline in three years — have revealed more details about the Galaxy S6.

The Federal Communications Commission on Thursday voted to raise the standards of what constitutes broadband from any service that offers download speeds of 4Mbps or higher to any service that offers download speeds of 25Mbps or higher. ISPs were obviously not happy with this vote since it means that a lot of their service offerings — particularly AT&T and Verizon’s DSL networks — no longer count as broadband services.

It’s hard to believe that Ted, a movie about a talking stuffed teddy bear, is as funny as it was. But Family Guy creator Seth MacFarlane can do no wrong these days, and now he’s back with the hotly anticipated sequel, Ted 2. The movie again stars Mark Wahlberg and MacFarlane does Ted’s voice of course, but they’re joined by a new cast of characters that includes Amanda Seyfried and even Morgan Freeman.

When I was a kid, I didn’t have access to an Internet-connected smartphone or tablet filled with all sorts of interesting ways to help me pass the time. But that’s an argument I’ll try not to bring up (too much) when I’ll eventually have to talk to my own kids about how much time they’re spending online compared versus homework or chores. No, my plan is to limit their mobile device use without taking their gadgets away, and now there’s a company that can help me do it.

Samsung’s first virtual reality headset is fantastic, but it has a big problem — and it’s the same problem that impacts all virtual reality devices. In these early days when most people haven’t yet experienced VR headsets, there’s simply no way to convey just how great the experience is. You really have to try it to see how amazing and immersive the experience really is.
So, to help emphasize that and to get more people interested in giving Gear VR a try, Samsung posted a video to its YouTube channel that shows just how impressed people are when they first try Gear VR.
