Mobile app maker Mobilligy is on a commendable mission. As the company points out, more than 60% of Americans are living paycheck to paycheck. According to a study published by Bankrate earlier this month and covered by The Wall Street Journal, only 38% of people polled said that they had enough money in the bank to cover a surprise $500 repair bill or a $1,000 emergency room visit.

At the same time, Mobilligy also notes that banks in the U.S. recently raised average overdraft fees to a record high of $30 per incident, which led to the collection of overdraft fees totalling $32 billion in 2014.

It’s hard to imagine that one app can undo all of that damage, but Prism aims to try.

Rather than tumultuously and publicly raging against Android device makers and committing major resources to a thermonuclear war against Google and its Android partners (which is how Steve Jobs did it while at the helm of Apple), Tim Cook decided to take a different, sneakier approach to defeating Android. A new Forbes article says that Cook basically “defused” Jobs’s thermonuclear threat, “then he took down Android.” And he did it quietly even though the CEO was never afraid to call out competitors in public — just see his stance on Android malware or privacy matters.

As we reported on Monday, Samsung is now less than a month away from the unveiling of its most important new smartphone in years. The company’s profits have plummeted in the past two quarters thanks to increased pressure at the low end from Chinese smartphone vendors, and then at the high end from Apple’s new iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus. Now, all eyes turn to the Galaxy S6 to see how Samsung plans to respond to Apple’s new iPhones.

Unfortunately, we may have our first sign that the Galaxy S6 isn’t quite the jumpstart Samsung needs to turn things around.
