Over the weekend, Tim Cook was the keynote speaker at the George Washington University graduation. In typical fashion, the bulk of Cook’s speech focused on broad and important themes such as equality, social change, civil rights, and correcting injustices where and whenever it arises.

“Sidelines are not where you want to live your life, Cook said. “The world needs you in the arena. There are problems that need to be solved. Injustices that need to be ended. People that are still being persecuted.”

But before Cook got into the meat and potatoes of an otherwise inspiring speech, he couldn’t help but have a little but of fun at the expense of anyone in the crowd who just so happened to be carrying a non-iPhone smartphone, which in this day and age pretty much means Android and Windows Phones (sorry BlackBerry).

The rumor frenzy surrounding Google’s upcoming new Nexus phone continues, as new details emerge about one of the two Nexus handsets that will supposedly launch this fall. Earlier rumors have suggested that both Huawei and LG are working on their own next-gen Nexus handsets, with the former model said to be the bigger handset of the two.

A new report now states that the Huawei Nexus phone will be built on top of the design of the Mate 8, an upcoming high-end handset expected to be released in the coming months.

Tidal subscribers who attended Jay Z’s private concert on Saturday night were treated to the latest chapter in the saga of Tidal vs. the world. The rapper’s new streaming music service has come under fire since its debut. While Jay Z believes the wave of criticism is linked to an “organized smear campaign” being carried out by a number of large companies, others posit the service’s position as a haven for upcoming indie musicians is in stark contrast with the image it created by parading around a bunch of multimillionaires to promote it.

A recent Apple acquisition may soon make Apple Maps the most accurate mobile mapping software on the market. Originally spotted by MacRumors, and subsequently confirmed via The New York Times, Apple recently acquired Coherent Navigation, a mapping company founded in 2008 that specializes in incredibly accurate and precise GPS software and systems.

The report notes that Coherent Navigation uniquely focuses on a technology it calls High Integrity GPS, otherwise known as iGPS. iGPS works by combining satellite information from mid-earth GPS satellites with data from “low-earth satellites of voice and data provider Iridium.” The result is mapping software which boasts “greater accuracy, precision, higher signal integrity, and greater jam resistance.”

The Oculus Rift is finally nearing mass-production, but that’s not necessarily good news for anyone looking to purchase one of Facebook’s virtual reality headsets, because the VR gadget will require a very powerful computer, one that’s going to be rather expensive. It took Microsoft a while, but the company has finally clarified its stance on the Windows 10 upgrade for pirated copies. Previously, the company said the upgrade will be still available as a free of charge download for PC owners that have installed pirated copies of Windows 7 or later, and then further elaborated on the matter by adding that these Windows 10 copies will still be labeled as not genuine. In a new blog post, the company said that Windows 10 won’t be free for pirates.
