We now know the answer to the question of what happens when you launch fireworks off the top of your head: You die. You die very, very quickly. Portland, Maine-based news station WCSH 6 reports that 22-year-old Maine resident Devon Staples this past weekend was killed instantly after he decided to try placing a fireworks mortar on top of his head and then setting them off.

A great series of children’s books that deserves an amazing adaptation for the screen is Daniel Handler’s A Series of Unfortunate Events, and Netflix happens to be cooking just one such show. The company confirmed in November the series is in the works, and a short 35-second teaser trailer is finally available for fans.

For decades on end, long before Adobe Photoshop became a household name, governments across the world have manipulated photographs to serve political ends. Joseph Stalin, for instance, famously altered photographs as to remove individuals who fell out of favor with the regime.
These days, image editing tools are not only abundant, but they’re incredibly easy to use. As a result, it’s become increasingly difficult to differentiate an authentic photo from one that’s been doctored.
Coming to the rescue is a Czech startup with an interesting piece of software that can purportedly detect when photos have been manipulated with astounding accuracy.

We’re lucky to make it more than three months without a new comic book franchise hitting the theaters in 2015, but superhero movies were much harder to come by a few decades ago. Military.com is reporting that the U.S. Air Force is looking to partner up and develop a hypersonic jet capable of traveling at five times the speed of sound, otherwise known as Mach 5. By way of contrast, the famed Concorde aircraft traveled at Mach 2.04.
