American Truck Historical Society’s 2014 National Convention and Antique Truck Show

antique truck show 225x300 American Truck Historical Society’s 2014 National Convention and Antique Truck Show by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

Hundreds of antique trucks and thousands of trucking enthusiasts will gather in Springfield, MO, May 29-31, for the American Truck Historical Society’s 2014 National Convention and Antique Truck Show. The event will take place at the Ozark Empire Fairgrounds.

Trucks of nearly every vintage and make will be represented at the show, from the high spoke-wheel trucks of the early 1900s to the big 18-wheeler rigs seen today on America’s highways. To be considered an antique, a truck must be at least 25 years old. Many truck-related vendors will be onsite selling items such as memorabilia, books/manuals, photos, model trucks, parts, etc.

The American Truck Historical Society (ATHS), publisher of Wheels of Time magazine and the largest antique truck club in the United States, was founded in 1971 with a mission to preserve the history of trucks, the trucking industry, and its pioneers. The non-profit group is based in Kansas City, Mo., and has over 20,000 members worldwide.

Persons who join ATHS are interested in the history of trucks and the American trucking industry. Many members own antique trucks, restored and unrestored. Others collect trucking memorabilia or literature, while many others collect model trucks. Many members also belong to ATHS chapters in their areas.

The National Association of Show Trucks (NAST) will once again meet in conjunction with the ATHS national convention. This will add to the variety of trucks, because NAST trucks are generally newer working show trucks. ATHS is excited to again partner with this great group of truck enthusiasts.

Once a year, ATHS members gather for an annual convention and truck show. The event is held in a different region of the country each year to make it easier for members to attend at least one national show every three years. The 2014 show in Springfield is expected to draw members and other truck enthusiasts from throughout the Midwest and even as far as the East and West Coasts.

The ATHS Ozarks/4 State Chapter is supporting the 2014 convention. Members from other nearby Missouri and Kansas ATHS chapters will also provide support to the show.

In addition to the Antique Truck Show, the convention will include a speaker’s program with topics on C.W. McCall, Missouri Route 66, Campbell 66 Express, and the History of Peterbilt.

Tickets are $10 per day for ages 16 and older; admission is free for youth 15 and younger accompanying a paying adult. The show is open to the public from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday and Friday and 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday.

To register online or learn more about ATHS, go to www.aths.org. For more information about the 2014 show in Springfield, call (816) 891-9900.

Canadian Tire and Continental Tires Spring Media Driving Event

Filed under:

Last week, we attended Canadian Tire’s Spring Media Driving event to put the Continental Tires TrueContact all-season tire through its paces. The weather at Ontario Place was a balmy 15 degrees with nary a cloud in sight. In other words, a perfect day to make the switch from winter tires to all-season/summer tires.

In order to test any tire, it’s always best to have several “real-world” scenarios set up. Canadian Tire set up a slalom course, a pothole simulator, and a wet emergency braking course for us to drive through in their provided fleet of Audi A4s wearing the Continental TrueContact all-seasons and a comparison fleet of A4s wearing their Tier 1 competitor’s tires.

Scroll down for our rundown of the day and our impressions and review of the TrueContact.

VP Out, Sunoco In as NHRA Official Fuel For 2015

The NHRA has announced an agreement whereby Sunoco has been named the official fuel of NHRA beginning in 2015. The following is a response to the announcement by VP’s president, Alan Cerwick:

As NHRA’s official fuel through the end of the 2014 season, VP Racing Fuels will continue to service the remaining NHRA races in the same professional and efficient way we always have.

We are exceedingly proud of our contribution to the quality of NHRA’s on-track product over the last 15 years. Given our support of drag racing throughout our 39-year history, we don’t intend to stop now. In anticipation of NHRA’s decision, we have developed a multi-tiered strategy to increase our involvement in other areas of drag racing and continue our efforts to help grow the sport.

While we are disappointed that our relationship with NHRA will not continue, we want to assure all our customers and the industry at large that this will not affect VP financially nor will it hinder our ability to compete aggressively with industry-leading fuels and other products. VP is a strong company, much different and more diverse than the company that first signed on as the official fuel of NHRA in 2000.

VP is enjoying a strong year in 2014 with increasing sales and domination in many forms of racing all over the world. In addition to fueling the popular Tudor United SportsCar Championship and other IMSA-sanctioned series this year, we just signed on as Official Fuel Supplier to Watkins Glen International in New York, the Isle of Man TT in the UK and extended our relationships with New England Dragway, Maple Grove Raceway, Atco Raceway, DIRTCar and the World of Outlaws. Besides race fuel, our consumer products and VP-branded gas stations are also experiencing robust growth — growth that not only will continue but accelerate in 2015 and beyond.

We wish NHRA good luck and sincerely hope they’ll have success with their racing events in the future. In the meantime we intend to continue executing our strategy for growth, the best of which is yet to come.
