Georgia is one of the latest states to pass legislation that will make it harder for women to get abortions, but Georgia also happens to be one of the countries where several movie studios shoot some of their pictures, including Netflix and Disney. Both studios spoke out against Georgia’s “heartbeat bill” saying that they’ll have to reconsider working in the state if the legislation is implemented.

A planet that shouldn’t exist was just found orbiting a distant star

When astronomers search for exoplanets they rarely know what they’re going to find, but that doesn’t mean there aren’t rules that would-be planets are expected to follow. Depending on their distance from their host star, any given planet will fall into one of several categories… or at least that’s what scientists have come to expect.

NGTS-4b, a newly-discovered world orbiting a distant star, doesn’t follow many of the rules that researchers thought they knew, and it’s earned the nickname “The Forbidden Planet” because of it.

Free PlayStation 4 games for June 2019: ‘Sonic Mania’ and ‘Borderlands’

%name Free PlayStation 4 games for June 2019: ‘Sonic Mania’ and ‘Borderlands’ by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

The selection of free games for PlayStation Plus subscribers has been somewhat lackluster in recent months, but PS4 owners won’t be complaining about June’s titles. In anticipation of the upcoming launch of Borderlands 3 this September, Borderlands: The Handsome Collection will be free to download for all of next month. Although I didn’t love The Pre-Sequel, Borderlands 2 is still an absolute classic and belongs in your collection.

Speaking of classics, June’s free games also include Sonic Mania, which many believe is possibly the best Sonic game of the decade. If all the 3D Sonic games in recent years have bummed you out, you owe it to yourself to play this 2D gem that truly recaptures the spirit of the original Sega Genesis games.

Almost six years after Google’s purchase of the Waze navigation app, one of the features previously exclusive to the latter now appears to be a staple of Google Maps in more than 40 countries around the world.

Google has confirmed to various tech outlets that its own Maps application is now showing a speed limit overlay, as well as speed cameras and mobile speed cameras, on maps for more than 40 countries as an expansion of what had previously been limited to only certain markets.

Scientists suggest a nearby supernova may have prompted human ancestors to walk upright

%name Scientists suggest a nearby supernova may have prompted human ancestors to walk upright by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

For scientists studying the history of human evolution, determining when certain changes happened and what may have prompted those changes are very important questions to answer. It’s only natural that we wonder where we came from, but there’s only so much that fossils can teach us, and sometimes we have to make big assumptions about what happened in our distant past.

One of the most puzzling mysteries has long revolved around the period of time in which human ancestors first began to walk upright. Archaeologists believe that as some of the environments in which humans first took root began to change from forest to grasslands, bipedalism became a big advantage. Now, a new study suggests that the explosion of a nearby star may have contributed to those environmental changes in a big way.

Apple is looking into building foldable iPhones out of glass

%name Apple is looking into building foldable iPhones out of glass by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

Samsung wasted the opportunity to become the first major smartphone vendor to launch a foldable handset, as the Galaxy Fold turned out to have a few design flaws that compromised the screens during regular use. It’s not that Samsung had the best foldable phone design out there, but the Korean giant has been at the forefront of foldable smartphone hype for years.

We’ve been waiting for two years for the Galaxy Fold to arrive, but Samsung kept pushing the launch event as it was still perfecting the phone’s design and software. Making foldable handsets, as it turns out, isn’t easy, and the Galaxy Fold’s early misfortune is a testament to that. On the other hand, Samsung does deserve some praise for pushing the envelope when it comes to new form factors. Someone had to do it, regardless of the risk.

But Samsung is hardly alone, as everyone else in the business is working on such devices, including Huawei, which unveiled its Mate X at the same time as the Galaxy Fold. One of these companies is Apple, which has been rumored to be working on foldable iPhones for quite a while. Such a radical design change isn’t expected for another few years, but it looks more and more like Apple is dedicating ample time to studying foldable devices.

Uber will now kick you off its app if your rating is too low

According to an app researcher Jane Manchun Wong with a history of impressive scoops that come from her constant reverse-engineering of popular mobile apps, it seems that Uber may be testing a feature that would represent a significant change to the ride-sharing business.

Uber is apparently testing a feature that would let you add drivers you particularly enjoyed riding with to a list of ‘favorites,’ presumably so that you would be able to ride with them again.
