Atlantic Plaza Towers is an apartment complex in Brooklyn where the landlord has been making preparations to add another layer to existing security elements that include cameras, security guards and key fobs that govern access to the complex.

The new element is a facial recognition system that has creeped out some tenants enough that a group of more than 130 of them has reportedly filed an official complaint with the state, citing privacy concerns. And it’s a development that comes as San Francisco just days ago became the first US city to outright ban the technology’s use by police and government officials, even as its use continues to expand around the country.

Here’s the first trailer for Pixar’s next original feature ‘Onward’

%name Here’s the first trailer for Pixar’s next original feature ‘Onward’ by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

We may have sounded a little extreme when we predicted back in December that Onward, Pixar’s next original feature slated for release on March 6, 2020, would easily recapture the magic of the beloved animation studio’s glory days and tap into the same storytelling and visual prowess that gave us gems like Toy Story.

Take a look at the just-released trailer for the film, though, and see if you don’t agree. Pixar made public this first look at footage from the film tonight during the NBA finals, and you can check it out below.

Xbox free Games with Gold for June 2019

%name Xbox free Games with Gold for June 2019 by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

It wouldn’t have taken much for Microsoft to top its Games with Gold offering for May, but it only barely did so with the four free games coming to Xbox Live Gold subscribers next month. The highlight of the selection is NHL 19, which is actually a really solid sports game, and belongs in your library if you like hockey.

Rivals of Aether is the other Xbox One title, and if you’re dying for a platform fighter kid, but don’t have a Switch with which to play Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, this should help tide you over. And if neither of those games piques your interest, you can always just play Portal, which is still one of the best games ever made.

Astronomers spot dozens of stars that have been evicted from their homes

%name Astronomers spot dozens of stars that have been evicted from their homes by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

We often think of stars as things that don’t move around much, but in some galaxies, that’s far from a universal truth. New observations made by NASA’s powerful Chandra X-Ray Observatory reveal that some stars are routinely booted out of their own host galaxies and sent flying back out into space.

The researchers spotted dozens of binary star pairs that had been, for lack of a better term, evicted from their homes after one of the two stars explodes into a supernova.

Apple, Google and Microsoft are fighting to keep your encrypted chats private

%name Apple, Google and Microsoft are fighting to keep your encrypted chats private by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

Just as more tech companies are starting to see the light when it comes to privacy and security, intelligence agencies would still like to be able to spy on encrypted communication, whether it’s text chats or calls.

The same goes for the British spies at GCHQ, who proposed back in November that they should be able to eavesdrop on encrypted messages. Several companies, including Apple, Google, Microsoft, WhatsApp, and others, have responded to GCHQ, criticizing its push to undermine the security of end-to-end encryption.

Gogo will launch a 5G in-flight network in 2021

%name Gogo will launch a 5G in flight network in 2021 by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

The worldwide 5G rollout has officially begun, but for the time being, so few devices and cities actually support the technology that it still feels like it’s years away from becoming mainstream. We still don’t know when a majority of us will be able to take advantage of the lightning-fast speeds of 5G, but an announcement from Gogo seems to suggest that the wireless technology will be much more pervasive two years from now.

On Wednesday, Gogo revealed that it plans to build a 5G network for aviation. The network will be designed for use on business flights, commercial jets, and smaller mainline jets operating within the US and Canada. Gogo wants to have the network up and running for business and commercial flights by 2021.

Pixar fans just got a hint on Thursday morning that the next installment in the beloved Toy Story franchise will not only crush it at the box office as expected but that it will outpace last year’s massively successful Incredibles 2.

According to the movie ticket site Fandango, Toy Story 4 now holds the record for best first-day presales for an animated feature on Fandango ahead of the movie’s June 21 release.

NASA’s James Webb Space Telescope takes another step towards completion

%name NASA’s James Webb Space Telescope takes another step towards completion by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

NASA’s James Webb Space Telescope is late to its own party, and it’s not just a little bit late. NASA originally planned to have the spacecraft ready to roll as early as 2007, but a laundry list of setbacks (and stupid human errors on the part of manufacturer Northrop Grumman) have pushed the project back by over a decade and roughly 20 times its original cost.

With that much cash dumped into a project, you can bet that NASA is eager to see some hints of serious progress, especially with its tentative 2021 launch window rapidly approaching. The good news is that half of the telescope just completed a round of testing at its manufacturing facility, besting a vacuum chamber designed to put it through conditions it would experience while in space.

Nintendo’s Joy-Con controllers are among the best things about the Switch video game console. The design is so cool, allowing you to use them together in a holster, attached to the ends of the Switch, on their own as mini controllers, or separately with one in each hand. There are some games that are better served by using a more traditional controller though, and not everyone wants to shell out $70 for a Nintendo Switch Pro Controller. If you’re on the lookout for a good alternative that costs much less money, definitely check out the Sunwaytech Wireless Pro Controller. It’s optimized for the Switch and it only costs $30!

Wireless Pro Controller – Nintendo Switch, Windows/Steam, Android: $29.98

  • Comfortable for extended gameplay sessions, fits well in hands of adults or teens – pick up one if you don’t get used to the tiny joy-con grip

Google Maps is now using AI to highlight popular restaurant dishes

%name Google Maps is now using AI to highlight popular restaurant dishes by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

Continuing with a theme we touched on just a day ago, Google Maps has added yet another enhancement that moves the popular navigation app deeper into territory that doesn’t really have much to do with helping direct you from Point A to Point B. In this case, Google has added a new feature to Maps that’s live now on Android (and which is coming to the iOS version in “the coming months) and involves the app using AI to spotlight the most popular dishes at restaurants.
