All the best new iOS 13 features Apple didn’t reveal at WWDC

Apple executives took the stage in San Jose, California on Monday morning and gave the world its first look at the company’s next-generation software platforms. MacOS 10.15 Catalina is packed full of nifty new features, tvOS 13 gets a great new home screen, and watchOS 6 has all sorts of new features as well as new watch faces. You can read a full recap of all the biggest announcements right here, but it goes without saying that the star of the show during Apple’s WWDC 2019 keynote was iOS 13. After last year’s iOS 12 update focused almost exclusively on fixing bugs and improving performance, the company’s new iOS 13 software shifts gears back to adding new features — and needless to say, there are far too many new features in iOS 13 for Apple to have covered them all during its keynote presentation.

We’ve already detailed the 15 best new iOS 13 features coming to your iPhone and iPad later this year, and it’s a fantastic list. Highlights include the new system-wide Dark Mode users have been clamoring for, swipe typing support on the Apple keyboard, a new secure “Sign in with Apple” feature, and new call filtering capabilities that could eliminate spam calls almost entirely. But what about all the smaller iOS 13 features that Apple didn’t have time to cover on stage at WWDC 2019?

Apple’s new privacy and security features in iOS 13 and macOS will be a tough act to follow

%name Apple’s new privacy and security features in iOS 13 and macOS will be a tough act to follow by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

For years, Apple has been insisting on offering its customers strong privacy and security across its products and services. Apple has long supported end-to-end encryption, and often reminded its audiences, as well as its rivals that it doesn’t sell any user data. In recent months, Facebook and Google have both shown their willingness to improve user privacy, but both companies went after Apple to point out that privacy doesn’t have to be reserved to those people who pay more money for expensive Apple devices. Both companies, however, will not stop collecting user data for ads, which is how they’re making money.

And then came Monday’s WWDC 2019 opening keynote where Apple came out with a few exciting privacy-related features that will hard to replicate by others.

These are all the iPhones and iPads that can’t run iOS 13

Apple on Monday unveiled iOS 13 at WWDC 2019, alongside the iPadOS version of the operating system that packs several features exclusive for Apple’s iPad. The core functionality will remain the same, and you’ll get the same iOS 13 experience across devices, whether it’s an iPhone, iPad, or the new iPod touch. However, several older devices won’t make the jump to iOS 13 this summer, which means they’re not getting the performance boost, the new Dark Mode, the volume UI update, and all the other goodies Apple created for this release.

Ancient saber-toothed cats could crush a skull with their teeth

%name Ancient saber toothed cats could crush a skull with their teeth by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

If you were transported back in time some 100,000 years there’s a good chance you’d run into any number of creatures that could rapidly end your life. One of those species was the saber-toothed cat, and while we may never know how aggressive the big felines would have been towards a human, new research tells us all we need to know about their potential killing power.

New research conducted by a team of scientists in Argentina reveals that the saber-toothed cat species Smilodon populator was equipped with teeth powerful enough to puncture skulls. In fact, the researchers have evidence of at least one such skull-busting incident, with fossils of one saber-toothed cat bearing the scars of a bite from one of its kin.

Tesla Model S catches fire at a Supercharger station in Belgium

In yet another peculiar story involving a Tesla vehicle catching fire for no apparent reason, Electrek reports that a Model S stationed at a Supercharger station in Antwerp, Belgium caught fire while hooked up to a charger.

Thankfully no one was hurt in the ordeal, but the car itself and the charger station were quite charred as a result. One of the more intriguing aspects of the whole ordeal involved how local fire authorities extinguished the fire, which can often be tricky when dealing with an electric vehicle. According to a report from HLN, the fire department picked up the Model S and submerged it into a tank of water, leaving it there overnight to prevent it from reigniting.

Apple isn’t really ‘killing’ iTunes – here’s what’s going on

%name Apple isn’t really ‘killing’ iTunes – here’s what’s going on by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

Apple made it official today, during the iPhone maker’s annual developer conference in San Jose. After 18 years, the company is finally breaking up the iconic entertainment hub known as the iTunes Store that had been the gateway to, first, music and then movies, TV shows and more for Apple device owners.
