A gem hunter accidentally discovered a new dinosaur species

%name A gem hunter accidentally discovered a new dinosaur species by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

Gem hunters and paleontologists have a lot in common. Both spend a lot of time sifting through dirt and rock in the hopes of finding things that have been hidden for countless years and every so often their tireless quests overlap.

Bob Foster, an Australian gem hunter, knows this better than most, and he’s just now getting credit for a discovery he made some 35 years ago by accident. As The New York Times reports, a strange bone Foster discovered decades ago has just found its place in the fossil record, and the entirely new dinosaur species it belonged to now carries Foster’s own name.

Samsung celebrates 10 years of Galaxy phones with deals and promotions

%name Samsung celebrates 10 years of Galaxy phones with deals and promotions by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

Samsung would like to wish everyone a Happy Galaxy Day today.

If you’re not aware, it’s a new holiday Samsung is kicking off this month — and the “day” part is a bit of a misnomer, because Samsung is actually running a month-long series of deals and discounts. All of which is in honor of the June 2009 launch of the first Samsung Galaxy phone, setting the stage for the ascendance of Samsung’s Galaxy line of mobile devices that would go on to present a serious challenge to Apple’s iPhone over the subsequent decade.

If you’re looking for something to do on a day off and don’t want to spend a lot of money, visiting a state park is a great option. Depending on your location, state parks offer you plenty of options ranging from hiking and biking trails to campsites and other relaxing bonuses.

Unfortunately, the rising popularity of many parks is becoming something of a burden. A new study by researchers at Utah State University and North Carolina State University suggests that if the trend continues, many state parks could end up far outspending their expected budgets and ultimately deteriorating at a rapid pace.

Spotify is trying to make Pandora obsolete with its new ‘Spotify Stations’ app

%name Spotify is trying to make Pandora obsolete with its new ‘Spotify Stations’ app by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

After an initial rollout in Australia, Spotify earlier today pushed out a new listening option for music lovers. Notably, the new option isn’t contained within the existing Spotify app but is offered up as an entirely separate app dubbed Spotify Stations.

The new app, in contrast to the existing Spotify app, doesn’t allow users to play songs on demand. Rather, it’s positioned as more of a music discovery tool. Users can create stations based on artists they enjoy or by picking specific genres. Like Pandora, and similar to the existing Radio feature in Spotify, users can thumbs-up songs they like and thumbs-down songs they aren’t into. Over time, the playlists become more personalized and, if all goes according to plan, should serve up songs more in tune with your music sensibilities.

A well-known Samsung insider let it slip a few days ago that the Galaxy Note 10 will get even faster battery charging than any other smartphone, after teasing the feature in previous leaks.

That’s 45W battery charging, a battery charging speed that’s in range of what’s currently available on competing devices. Samsung has yet to confirm anything about its upcoming flagship, but a new leak shows us a brand new Samsung charger that might turn out to support 45W fast battery charging.

Xbox E3 2019 press conference to feature ‘Halo Infinite’ gameplay, xCloud demos

%name Xbox E3 2019 press conference to feature ‘Halo Infinite’ gameplay, xCloud demos by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

We’re less than a week away from the first press conferences of E3 2019, and although leaks have been few and far between up to this point, some major details are finally beginning to make their way online. For example, on Tuesday, Thurrott’s Brad Sams cobbled together everything he’s heard from industry sources and insiders at Microsoft to give a believable rundown of what we can expect to see at the Xbox E3 Briefing on Sunday.

In terms of hardware, Sams suggests that Microsoft will follow Sony’s lead by announcing key features for its next-generation consoles. Some of the specs we can expect to hear for the Anaconda and Lockhart consoles include solid-state drives, Navi graphics, Zen 2 processors, and backwards compatibility. As the specs have yet to be finalized, we shouldn’t expect Microsoft to get any more specific than this until later in the year or early next year.

Among the scores of new features and updates that await iOS users when the latest version of Apple’s mobile operating system arrives this fall is one that didn’t really get much of the spotlight yesterday at WWDC, but which may end up being one of the most appreciated of the entire release.

Astronomers captured an image of a double asteroid as it sped past Earth

%name Astronomers captured an image of a double asteroid as it sped past Earth by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

Astronomers eager to observe bizarre visitors to our neck of the Solar System were in for a real treat late last month as the rare double asteroid 1999 KW4 made a “close” pass of Earth at a distance of some 3.2 million miles. It was far enough away that the space rock didn’t have a chance of posing a threat to our planet, but it was close enough that scientists were able to catch a glimpse of the special visitor.

Asteroid 1999 KW4 isn’t like many of the other space rocks that speed past our planet on their way around the Sun. Rather than a single large object, 1999 KW4 is actually two separate rocks; a large main body that measures roughly a mile across and a smaller “asteroid moon” that orbits it.
