GM and Michelin are working on a prototype tire design they unveiled this week which will start being tested on Chevy Bolts later this year — and, more importantly, is intended to eliminate the prospect of blowouts and flat tires once it’s put into use on production cars. The design was introduced this week at an event in Montreal and is being called the Uptis, which stands for Unique Puncture-proof Tire System.

NASA has a new plan for getting the InSight lander digging again

%name NASA has a new plan for getting the InSight lander digging again by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

NASA’s InSight lander is having some problems. The robot, which has already delivered some very interesting observations since arriving on Mars late last year, can’t seem to get one of its most important tools to work as planned.

The instrument, called a “mole,” was designed to hammer itself deep under the Martian surface and monitor temperature changes. NASA figured it would be able to push itself as deep as 16 feet into the Martian crust, but the consistency of the soil has made that difficult. In fact, the mole has only made it around a foot deep, and now InSight’s science team has come up with a new plan.

If you’re a Windows user who has yet to update your operating system after the discovery of the Bluekeep vulnerability a few weeks ago, then maybe a warning from the NSA will be enough to spur you on.

Bluekeep is a vulnerability that’s been compared to the devastating 2007 malware WannaCry that wreaked havoc on computer systems around the world, resulting in millions of dollars’ worth of damage. There’s concern that systems running older versions of Windows like Windows 7 are especially vulnerable to Bluekeep.

You might have missed the most promising new feature of iOS 13

%name You might have missed the most promising new feature of iOS 13 by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

iOS 13 might not be the huge leap forward that some Apple fans anticipated, but it does include a range of upgrades that will greatly improve the iOS experience. One that we’ve yet to highlight is called Optimized Battery Charging, and while it doesn’t sound all that exciting, it might be the best addition of iOS 13.

As MacRumors explains, Optimized Battery Charging can be found in the Battery Health section of the Settings app. “To reduce battery aging,” the description reads, “iPhone learns from your daily charging routine so it can wait to finish charging past 80% until you need to use it.” And by doing so, it can extend your battery’s lifespan.

All the new iPad gestures you need to learn to leave your laptop behind

%name All the new iPad gestures you need to learn to leave your laptop behind by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

For a few years now, Apple has been insisting that the iPad is a better choice than a traditional laptop, and that might be true for some users. The iPad Pro, as well as the various features that Apple built for the tablet to take advantage of the extra screen real estate, make it a great tool for work — but not a perfect work device.

That is, it wasn’t an ideal laptop replacement until earlier this week when Apple unveiled a bunch of iOS features for iPad that users have been demanding for years now. And iOS for iPad has received so many features that set it apart from iPhone that it got its own operating system name. iPadOS is, of course, iOS 13, plus all the new iPad features. But before you replace your laptop with a new iPadOS machine, you might want to become familiar with all of the new gestures that Apple has introduced in iPadOS 13.

In a new blog post, NASA announces the three companies that scored contracts to produce lunar landing equipment which will deliver scientific experiments and instruments to Earth’s tiny companion. Astrobotic, Intuitive Machines, and Orbit Beyond will now be working in concert with NASA to accomplish a number of lofty goals.
