I had a problem. There’s a ductless air conditioning and heating unit in the back of my house that I would always forget to turn off, so I wanted something that I could use to control it from my smartphone and even automate so it would automatically send an “off” commend every evening. I also didn’t want to spend $100+ on a Logitech Harmony device to get it done. I did a bunch of research and ended up with the VigoRise Universal IR Remote. It works shockingly well for a $17 box from a no-name brand, and I would highly recommend it to anyone looking to control devices like TVs, cable boxes, DVD players, Blu-ray players, air conditioners, or anything else that uses a normal infrared remote. If there’s one thing you can definitely say about NASA, it’s that they sure do like to plan ahead. Despite more pressing ambitions like returning to the Moon, launching a new Mars rover, and even planning a manned mission to the Red Planet, NASA announced today that it’s already looking for new adventures, and it plans to start with Saturn’s moon Titan.

The space agency revealed today that it plans to launch a mission called Dragonfly, which will see a drone helicopter sent to the frigid moon in search of knowledge and perhaps even life. Dragonfly won’t launch for some time, with its current launch date planned for 2026, and it will take eight years to actually make the journey, but once it arrives it just might have some surprises for us.

This past April, a parked Model S in Shanghai caught fire for seemingly no reason at all. The harrowing incident, which was captured on video, occurred in a parking garage and generated a lot of unanswered questions about the safety of Tesla vehicles. Indeed, we’ve seen a handful of stories involving Tesla vehicles spontaneously catching fire in the past and, more often than not, we get nothing from Tesla aside from a quick blurb that a given incident represented an “extraordinarily unusual occurrence.”

The Shanghai incident, to Tesla’s credit, played out a little bit differently. Earlier today, Tesla released a statement about the cause of the fire and revealed that it resulted from a defective battery module. Notably, experts consulted on the matter do not believe the fire can be traced back to any type of defect in the overall design of the car.

Florida municipalities are proving to be a juicy and lucrative target these days for hackers who’ve been launching cyber attacks on computer systems, government phones and the like before demanding big ransom payments as a condition for leaving the targeted government alone.

A trio of cities has been hit in recent days, with two of those cities known to have paid collectively more than $1 million to the hackers that hit them. The most recent: Lake City, where leaders at an emergency meeting a few days ago approved a ransom payment of 42 Bitcoin, equal to about $460,000.
