Microsoft has a golden opportunity at E3 this year. After a tumultuous reveal, filled with consumer outrage and terrible Xbox 180 puns, Microsoft managed to right the ship, bringing the Xbox One in line with the vision that the public saw fit. Despite trailing behind the PS4, Xbox One sales have been extraordinary. With a steady stream of software updates and a continuous effort to please the fans, Microsoft is entering E3 as strong as it has been since the Xbox One launched last year.

Momentum. That was the word of the weekend at the last race in MonacoNico Rosberg retaking it, Williams getting reacquainted with it and Marussia tasting it for the first time, among other examples. That same, weighted term flew to Canada with the money circus known as Formula One, took all weekend to build and then walloped the front end of the field and the season on Sunday afternoon.

Rosberg carried his Monaco triumph into qualifying, putting his Mercedes AMG Petronas on pole ahead of teammate and reconciled friend Lewis Hamilton. Reigning World Champion Sebastian Vettel finally got the better of Daniel Ricciardo, lining up for Infiniti Red Bull Racing in third ahead of his teammate in sixth, split up by Valtteri Bottas and Felipe Massa in the Williams. Ferrari, having brought numerous aero updates for this race, didn’t get the push it was really looking for, Fernando Alonso happy to get seventh ahead of Kimi Räikkönen, still troubled by his F14T, in tenth. Jean-Eric Vergne secured eighth for Toro Rosso, Jenson Button lining up ninth for a still-struggling McLaren.

When the lights went out, Mercedes, Williams and Marussia would all find out how quickly momentum can short circuit or disappear in a sparkly ball of high-speed contact, spilled fluids and tire barriers… READ MORE

If it seems like every company out there these days is trying to track your web browsing, mobile usage and actual physical location history, it’s probably because they are. Usage history, location history and other related data are hugely important to advertisers, which try to build profiles of users in order to serve better targeted ads. Marketers have a million tricks up their collective sleeve when it comes to tracking you, but thanks to a smart new feature coming in iOS 8, iPhone users’ privacy will be guarded a bit more closely than other smartphone users.

Microsoft is prepared to lead off E3 once again this year with the very first press conference of the day, one which should be packed with brand new games for the Xbox One. Earlier in the year, the new head of the Xbox division, Phil Spencer, made it very clear that Microsoft would take this opportunity to focus on the games.

Microsoft took to the Xbox Wire last week in order to discuss over 45 entertainment apps which would be coming to the Xbox One, so it’s likely that the press conference will gloss over anything outside of actual game announcements, trailers and live demos. The two exclusives we’re most excited to see? Sunset Overdrive and Halo 5: Guardians. After a slow start to the generation, gamers are looking forward to seeing what the Xbox One is capable of — it’s Microsoft’s job to capitalize on that.

One of the most sought-after features for iOS 8 was transit directions in the Maps app, a feature Apple removed when it switched from Google Maps to its own home-grown mapping solution. But last Monday, Apple did not announce transit directions during its annual World Wide Developers Conference. However, it turns out that Apple may have accidentally leaked screenshots of the upcoming new Maps feature during a WWDC session video.

Elemental RP-1 may be world’s lightest sports car, weighs under 1,000 pounds

The British boutique sports car industry is fascinating when you think about it. For such a relatively small country known for its wet weather for much of the year, consider all of the open-top Caterham, Ariel, Morgan products, not to mention many other small brands pumping out cars. The latest company hoping to fill the need a street-legal, track day racer is called Elemental Cars, and its first creation is the featherweight RP-1.

To stand apart in the crowded market, you have to do something special. The RP-1’s trick is its planned weight of just 450 kilograms (992 pounds) in a carbon fibre tub with under-car aerodynamic aids to create downforce. Propulsion comes from a mid-mounted, tuned, 2.0-litre Ford EcoBoost engine producing 280 horsepower, mated to a six-speed sequential gearbox. With so little weight to push around, the small, turbocharged engine should be plenty powerful.

Beyond just the claims of power and light weight, Elemental says that the RP-1 will be road legal in the UK, and inside the two-seater there will be a racing-inspired, feet-up driving position with an adjustable seat and pedals to fit drivers even over six-feet tall. It will have a few amenities for occupants, too, like a heated footwell and traction control, plus data logging and an on-board camera for the track.

It’s generally best to take a wait-and-see approach for the launch on any new sports car, especially one from an unproven company. However, the delay for more info on the RP-1 won’t be long. The company will unveil the car at the 2014 Goodwood Festival of Speed from June 26-29. Elemental Cars’ Finance Director Jeremy Curnow told Autoblog via email that it will release more information and images then. According to its website, production will begin in the UK in 2015. Scroll down for the full details on this lithe, little roadster.
