Google fans, the wait is finally over — Google’s biggest event of the year is about to begin. Like Apple’s WWDC conference, Google I/O is a massive meeting of developers each year that positions them to take advantage of all of the new tools and services Google has to offer. For non-developers who use various products from Google’s gigantic ecosystem, I/O is also our first look at the latest and greatest Google has to offer.

Google’s next Android version will be announced in a few short hours, with various reports already offering a look at an early Android L change log, claiming that Android 5.0 Lollipop is the name of the next major release, and revealing certain details about the new mobile OS. Android Police has seen images that reveal more details about the upcoming Android features, detailing some significant changes.

It’s always smart to expect the unexpected with Google, but a new report from Seth Weintraub at 9to5Google is the most unexpected Google I/O rumor we’ve ever heard. One of Weintraub’s sources, who apparently tipped him off to Google’s Glass skydiving stunt two years ago, says that there’s a chance that Google will take the wraps off of “some cutting-edge micro bots that can detect things like certain kinds of cancer” at I/O this year, although the source cautions that these nanobots are at least two years away from being ready to launch onto the market.

We have seen several videos of mockups said to accurately represent Apple’s 5.5-inch iPhone 6 model, but we’ve never seen one quite like this. A number of reports from top news agencies state that Apple is working on not one but two new iPhone models that will debut in 2014. The flagship iPhone 6 is believed to feature a brand new design and a 4.7-inch display, and then an even bigger iPhone phablet is expected to debut with a similar design and a 5.5-inch screen.
Now, a model believed to be a close replica of the larger 5.5-inch iPhone phablet has been compared to the iPhone 5s along with several Android phablets in a new ultra high-definition video.

Aereo as we know it has effectively been put out of business. The United States Supreme Court on Wednesday sided with broadcasters who were suing Aereo for taking over-the-air broadcast signals and delivering them to your smartphone, tablet or laptop over your Internet connection. As SCOTUSblog informs us, the court’s 6-3 ruling “appears sweeping and definitive, determining that Aereo is illegal.” If Aereo wants to keep delivering broadcast networks’ shows to your Internet-connected devices, it will need to pay licensing fees to broadcasters.

Google has already been confirmed to unveil its next major Android OS update at Google I/O later today, but a first Android L change log has already been found on Google’s Chrome issue tracker, where it was hiding in plain sight since May 7. Tutto Android, which stumbled on the log that has almost 100,000 lines of code, listed several potential new features that Android L may bring.

Typically when an automaker rolls out a concept car or pre-production prototype, it does its tour and then disappears into the company’s archives. Maybe it will be displayed for the public to see in the company’s own museum or maybe it will spend most of its time under covers in a warehouse somewhere, but every once in a while, an automaker will open up its history and start selling off its concept cars. For Shelby American, “once in a while” has just rolled around.
The House that Carroll Built is moving from its previous headquarters at Las Vegas Motor Speedway to a new facility off of the Las Vegas strip, and in the process is liquidating fourteen of the rarest cars in its collection. That presents a tremendous opportunity for muscle car collectors to bring one or more of these snakes home.
As you might expect, the catalog is composed mostly of Mustangs, but not exclusively. There’s a pair of 289 Cobras: the last of the 50th anniversary slab-sided continuation cars and an original development vehicle, offered at $200,000 apiece. At the other end of the spectrum you’ll find the 2013 Shelby Raptor concept for $125k and Focus concept for $50k. And of course there are the Mustangs.
The collection on offer includes three Super Snake concepts from 2010/11, a 2007 Shelby GT prototype, a 2011 GTS concept, a quartet of GT350 prototypes from 2012/13 and a 2012 Shelby GTS Wide Body prototype – prices for which range from $99,000 to $200k.
