A spat between the companies that operate two of the biggest music streaming services in the world has landed at the doorstep of the European Union, which has been taking an increasingly tough stance lately against antitrust-related issues involving US tech companies.

In this case, the two companies are Apple and Spotify, the latter having just filed an antitrust complaint with European officials blasting some of the iPhone maker’s policies related to its lucrative App Store as unfairly limiting competition. Spotify CEO Daniek Ek, in a blog post today explaining the move, said some of Apple’s rules around third-party apps “limit choice and stifle innovation.”

A flight was forced to turn around because a woman forgot her baby at the airport

Getting ready for an airline flight can be pretty stressful, and remembering to haul all your belongings with you is a struggle for plenty of people. If you forget a carry-on bag in the terminal you might find yourself in a tight spot, but there’s little chance the pilot will turn around in mid-air so you can grab it.

A distraught mother on a Saudi Arabian Airlines flight left a pilot with no choice but to make an immediate return to their departing airport over the weekend because she forgot something a whole lot more precious than luggage — she left her baby sitting in the waiting area.

This is starting to be a pattern with DC superhero movies released over the past few months.

As with Aquaman, for which Amazon Prime members got exclusive access to an early showing before the movie hit theaters, Warner Bros. and Fandango have teamed up for a similar deal ahead of the April 5 release of Shazam!, the next DC superhero flick to hit the big screen.

Galaxy S10 early sales expected to top those of the Galaxy S9, but just barely

After failing to generate much excitement with the launch of the Galaxy S9 last year, Samsung put all its eggs in the Galaxy S10 basket, cooking up an all-new design with a triple-lens camera, Infinity-O display, and a built-in fingerprint sensor. It was more than just a blowout for the tenth anniversary of the company’s Galaxy brand — it was a look into the future of smartphones. But would it be enough to galvanize a market in decline?

We won’t know the answer to that question for quite some time, but the early returns appear promising. According to The Korea Herald, industry sources believe that Samsung is on track to ship 10 million S10 phones the first quarter of the year, with another 10 million shipments expected for the April quarter.

It’s been about a year since the world lost one of its brightest minds. Stephen Hawking, who devoted his life to science while battling a debilitating motor neuron disease for over half a century, passed away in his home in Cambridge, England, and now his nurse is under extreme scrutiny for how she cared for the aging physicist.

Patricia Dowdy, a 61-year-old caregiver, was Hawking’s nurse for 15 years, and while a new investigation doesn’t link her to Hawking’s death, she has been suspended over what is being called “misconduct” related to her time caring for the scientist.

Most Android antivirus apps barely offer any protection at all

This won’t exactly be a big reveal to some of you, but a new study of Android antivirus apps in the Google Play store is out with some predictably disheartening results. According to AV-Comparatives, an Austrian antivirus testing organization, most of the antivirus apps in the store don’t really protect you from much of anything, and aren’t worth the space they’ll take up on your phone.

Less than 1 in 10 apps defended against all 2,000 malware samples the testing lab threw at them, according to a press release from the lab. Moreover, more than two-thirds of the apps didn’t even hit a block rate of 30%.

Google has brought several Waze features over to Google Maps in the past few months, which is excellent news for Waze fans who would like to get a similar experience out of Google Maps.

We saw speed limits, and speed traps hit Google Maps, with Google confirming the new feature. We then saw Waze’s signature feature in testing inside Maps. That’s the the incident reports feature that lets you post updates about your current traffic experience, and warn other users about traffic and accidents ahead.

Google is reportedly cutting back on hardware, moving some workers to new jobs

Is the hardware honeymoon over at Google? That’s certainly one interpretation of reports that have emerged from within the company suggesting Google seems to be trimming its product portfolio, or is about to. This despite the fact that the tech giant has enjoyed some degree of hardware success thanks to products like its Pixel smartphones and smart speakers that compete against Amazon’s dominance in that market.

Nevertheless, Google has begun reassigning employees away from is tablet and laptop division. Business Insider cites “several people familiar with the matter” in a piece noting that dozens of Google hardware and technical program managers have been told to find new jobs with the company.

Battery life across Samsung’s Galaxy S10 lineup might surprise you

%name Battery life across Samsung’s Galaxy S10 lineup might surprise you by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

In a smartphone market that has largely become saturated and arguably boring, Samsung’s 2019 smartphone lineup actually brings a lot to the table. Even if we ignore the intriguing Galaxy Fold, Samsung’s S10 lineup offers up a number of compelling options across the board. Similar to Apple’s strategy last year with the iPhone, Samsung’s S10 lineup features three brand new models: the S10, the S10+, and last but not least, the S10e.

Naturally, all devices offer up a varying number of trade-offs. The S10+, for example, has a gorgeous 6.4-inch display but costs $300 more than the more budget-friendly and diminutive S10e. Pricing aside, one of the more important metrics to hone in on when evaluating Samsung’s S10 lineup is battery life. Remember, numerous surveys over the past few years have consistently revealed that impressive battery life remains the most important feature prospective smartphone buyers are looking for.

A true AirPods rival might be in the works for the OnePlus 7

OnePlus last year decided to remove the 3.5mm headphone jack from the OnePlus 6T, explaining that it had to make room for the phone’s in-display fingerprint sensor and increase the battery size. Like other companies, however, OnePlus launched wireless headphones of its own — the Bullets Wireless — which preceded the OnePlus 6T by several months. They were rather unimpressive, but true AirPods rivals could be on the way.
