Everything moves so quickly in the smartphone industry that a span of just a few years can seem like a lifetime. But in the grand scheme of things, it wasn’t too long ago that Android phone users were being shamed over how bad the cameras were on their phones. Do you remember when Instagram first came to Android back in 2012 after having been an iPhone-exclusive app for so long? There was a huge backlash from whiny iPhone users complaining that because the app was now available on Android phones, their timelines were filled with photos that were blurry and pixelated. The sad thing was the fact that they weren’t exaggerating; the cameras on Android phones were embarrassingly bad at the time. But my, how the times have changed.

Fast-forward to 2019 and Apple’s lead in mobile camera quality feels like a distant memory. The iPhone’s edge in this area has long since disappeared, with smartphones from the likes of Huawei, Google, and sometimes even Samsung outshining iPhones in amateur and professional camera tests. What’s even worse is the fact that the gap is growing wider, not narrower. Now, a new Android phone has been released with a camera that doesn’t merely outperform Apple’s latest iPhones, it puts Apple’s latest iPhones to shame.

Marvel pulled out all the stops this week when it comes to Avengers: Endgame marketing, releasing plenty of new footage, including a Special Look trailer, a new TV spot, as well as a rerun of an entire Avengers 4 scene that only a lucky few got to see it in the previous weeks. We already analyzed each clip, at least the ones that are widely available, and told you everything you needed to know about the new footage, reminding you in the process that not everything is what it seems to be. Marvel told us time and again that MCU trailers are meant to be misleading. They use shots that might never make it into the final cut of the movie, as well as CGI to hide spoilers. That said, they can’t hide everything, and there’s a pretty big Endgame spoiler hiding in plain sight in the latest trailer. And we nearly missed it. If you want to avoid Endgame spoilers you’d better walk away right now.

Ever since Microsoft launched the first Windows 10 version into the wild, the company chased market share at the expense of user experience. Many PC owners found their systems upgraded to Windows 10 out of the blue, as Microsoft would force Windows 10 downloads and installs on users. This was easily the worst thing about the Windows 10 upgrade, at least until users discovered all the strange privacy-infringing features of the first Windows 10 versions. Things have improved since the early days of Windows 10, but it took a few years for Microsoft to finally realize that Windows users prefer to upgrade their computers at their own pace. Moving forward, future Windows 10 upgrades will let you choose when and if to install the new OS version.

Most cat owners would tell you that their furry little friends definitely know their own names. As someone with a cat, I suppose I’d be inclined to believe that the animal I have been calling by name for over a decade does truly know what I’ve labeled him, but science has never been totally on board with that notion.

Unlike past research efforts conducted with dogs, there hasn’t been a ton of scientific effort put into determining whether cats are capable of understanding how names work. Whether any cats can tell the difference between their names and the names of other animals in the same home, or even random words, was something scientists from the Sophia University in Tokyo wanted to find out.

In just over ten days, HBO will unleash the final season of Game of Thrones — a season we’ve been anxiously awaiting for almost two years. The International Space Station is like its own little self-contained hostel for astronauts. It’s a weird combination of laboratory, recreational area, and gathering space for the folks who are lucky enough to spend some time in space. That being said, it can’t sustain itself without regular shipments of supplies, and since Amazon doesn’t deliver to space (yet), those goods are sent by groups like Russia’s Roscosmos.

Today, the ISS successfully received one such shipment, and while launches of supply missions don’t get the kind of recognition that crewed launches receive, they’re still incredibly vital to the success of the science being conducted in space.
